MikeD
Yes, and it's STILL brass and percussion, which is the essence of Drum and Bugle Corps. Which many of us keep saying and you keep ignoring, but that's okay. It's that today, but maybe not down the road. Just like there were no pits, and then there were. A synth is now part of the essence of drum corps in DCI, yet it wasn't allowed just a few years back.
jjeffeory
Nah, just bring back french horns; a line of King 1122s would do the trick. That would be epic!
Jeff Ream
I want new material arranged in a style that pleases the fans as well as the judges. It is possible to do so! Complete musical phrases are a good place to start. except according to some, that's just not groundbreaking

Lance
except according to some, that's just not groundbreaking it would be groundbreaking if any corps had ever really done it you know ever. app spring never sounded close to the original until scv did it...and it was still hacked to pieces. Ahhhh - I LIKE your thinking, davidp!A sound like no other...and sorely missed, imo. It's a particular flavor. Some love it, some not so much. A while back (I think it was at Finals in around 1983 or so) a friend of mine who was a pretty well-regarded horn arranger and instructor at the time and I were watching/listening to Phantom during some delicate passage of their show. All of a sudden he blurts out, to no one (and everyone) in particular: "aughh - they gotta get ridda those a**h*le french horns!" I guess he was not a fan of those King 1122's! Peace - all in good fun, Fred O. Edited October 27, 2010 by drumno5

MikeN
I'd love to hear BD's supercharged brassline play Ya Gotta Try, but I also recognize that you can't exactly fit that into a modern, fast-paced show. Along the same lines, I'd also love to hear them revisit Bird and Bela in Bb, because I think that *would* translate well, and ... it's just a great piece. I don't think we need any other reason than that. Mike
jjeffeory
except according to some, that's just not groundbreaking ..and neither is chop 'n bop! That's so 1994! I have a feeling that things will come full circle and we'll get some good stuff soon. In keeping with the Spirit of this thread, I vote for any of these: Bacchanalia Latin Implosion Karn Evil 9 La Fiesta Like A Lover Liferaft Earth Trilogy Piano Concerto No. 1 First Circle
