charlie1223
Yes, I'm being overly dramatic! Of course there's a thought: " If you can't win the game, then change the game to one that you can win". This seems to be what has happened here. heh... uhm... sorta kinda not really. Jeff Ream
The mantra at the time was that it was necessary to learn and use an outdoor technique. That was the important factor in getting a good sound out of those instruments at all volumes. It now seems that the mantra is add more members & instruments, crank it the volume up to 12, and bang away using indoor techniques! Yes, I'm being overly dramatic! Of course there's a thought: " If you can't win the game, then change the game to one that you can win". This seems to be what has happened here. except having watched them up and close and personal, at no time did they "beat the snot" out of the instruments as we keep being told. and writing hasn't changed all that much either. Howdy
The line must be drawn at woodwinds. Keep woodwinds out of drumcorps. If woodwinds are added, then drum and bugle corps will be dead.
Tom Brace
Yes! I remember them keeping their show bars in freezers until moments before showtime. Am I remembering correctly?
Tom Brace
just bring back the G bugles. i think that's what this thread is REALLY getting at. Many corps could not afford the costs of G bugles. We would lose corps if G bugles were forced. Interestingly enough, NOTHING prevents a corps from marching G bugles today. NOTHING. They are just too expensive when compared to the deals many...even non-finalist corps get to march with Bbs. Waiting for the day Dynasty approaches a corps with FREE horns. The Oz
It can be called Drum Corps under the same understanding that enables people to call the dance troupe a color guard.

Tom Brace
Except for the judging system. It does not. Blue Devils on G last season still win the whole thing.
Hrothgar15
It does not. Blue Devils on G last season still win the whole thing. Why, then, did a brass judge tell a Pioneer staffer that they would have to switch if they "wanted to be competitive"?
