MikeD
except having watched them up and close and personal, at no time did they "beat the snot" out of the instruments as we keep being told. and writing hasn't changed all that much either. Actually they play that way, from watching them up close and personal...and pit players have said that here on DCP. Not to mention the better mallet selection that sounds better and saves the keys. MikeD
Why, then, did a brass judge tell a Pioneer staffer that they would have to switch if they "wanted to be competitive"? "A" brass judge saying something is not the official position of DCI. Don't confuse a bad decision by one or even a couple of judges with being the official viewpoint of DCI the organization. To paraphrase your last post " Don't confuse the bad decision by one or even a couple..." Edited January 15, 2011 by garfield

garfield
Did ANYONE notice that woodwinds were not proposed at the Janual? The ground hog did not see his shadow... 2 More years without woodwinds expected... If you were GH at this point, what would you focus on, a proposal to change the whole activity or actions that make your "super tour" what you wanted all along? Stu
> A brass judge saying something is not the official position of DCI. Don't confuse a bad decision by one or even a couple of judges with being the official viewpoint of DCI the organization. True; but "official viewpoint" in this situation is somewhat moot because the judge is the person who evaluates and gives the actual scores to the corps, not DCI. People accuse DCI though, not an individual judge...or two...making these off-the-cuff statements.
charlie1223
of course, it's all for the better. except lower heights, smaller pits and volume Well frankly the a lot of things are different and better. The BEST is that the keyboard are now are height adjustable! NO more hunched over marimba players and the like. And I would say the synthetic keys are resilient to the heat, and beating of drum corps players

I can't believe I've had two opportunities to use this image this week, but the two of you walked right into it.
