CrownMelloMom
Spirit - this is NOT the Spirit I remember seeing in recent years. Holy crap was that show awesome. Right from the intro their theme comes across clearly and the audience knows they've been brought into a film noire type setting. They are strong musically and execute their visual package well. They use the whole field and the Guard adds a lot visually. Drum feature was pretty sick, but I could do without the cheesy cymbal dancing. I do feel they let the sound effects carry the story a bit too much at times, but I can get past that based on how well they are playing. Finalist contender. Just have to clean like crazy going forward. Awesome to hear ~ love when everything starts coming together for a corps. Would be exciting to see them bring it back to finals

Musicman1084
Madison - one word comes to mind: Clarity. Everything just comes across very clear. Theme, music, drill. The hornline just knocks you off your feet and the drumline plays some very tastefully written beats exceptionally well. The guard absolutely sells this show. I'm amazed how much volume they get without sacrificing quality. The only gripe I have with this show is the beginning of the tribute portion. Talthough it's beautiful and incredibly poignant, the acting is borderline cheesy, guys. BUT, who gives a crap when you witness an ending like that. Empire State Of Mind in drum corps? It sounds like it was WRITTEN for the Madison Scouts. Wow. They set the bar awfully high for Crown...
Musicman1084
X-men: nice to hear that sound back!!!! Music is brilliantly arranged and handled nicely. I'm excited for the change of pace from recent years. This definitely suited the Crossmen much more nicely. The guard writin in particular I felt Complimented the music very well. I'm not crazy about the drill as I feel it's a bit too easy. But then again, I felt their drill was a bit too difficult to execute thei music in recent years, so maybe this is a welcome change. ALSO, screamers!!!! That made me awfully happy. Im not entirely sure how far they can make it with this show, but they've got a terrific crowd pleaser on their hands. I look forward to seeing it later in the year and maybe even seeing them crack finals. It can definitely happen based on what I just saw.
Musicman1084
Crown - this show is a blast to watch live! Great music seamlessly woven together from two contrasting styles and one amazing guard that really carries the rock star theme well. The intro has to be one of the best pre-shows in recent memory. Paint it black is a great and unexpected piece of the show (first time seeing it). Maybe I'm being unfair in saying this, but I was almost expecting a little bit more out of them in terms of blend and volume, BUT, they were definitely pulling off a difficult music book while executing a difficult (but VERY effective) visual package. Maybe I'm crazy, but I feel like Madison has a chance to take this show tonight. I think Crown may finish ahead of them at finals, but I felt that Madison had the better run tonight. Sidenote: MAJOR thumbs down to the guard instructor from another corps walking through the stands putting down Crown after their show. I can understan that you may not be "impressed," but maybe you shouldn't be so vocal about it when it's clear to everyone around who you're associated with. Weak.
