  1. 1. Should we allow guards to be amped?

    • Yes. Everything else can be amped, so why not the guards?

    • No. Let's stop the amp race and draw the line at brass and percussion.

With all the hoopla about amping percussion and brass, should we finally cross the line and allow guards to be amped? And, if so, how should we do it? What benefits might we experience from amping the guards? What downsides might we experience?

I think we should finally cross the line and allow EVERYONE to be amped. Imagine how much a show could benefit, for example, from the comment of George Hopkins during the show! I mean, that would be like having the DVD's live! thumbup.gif Better yet, why not amp the judges booth? I would love to hear their comments during the show. Man this is such a great idea!

As far as the corps members go... We could definitely hear crunchy waffles better if guards were amped. I think we can all agree how useful doing this would be! We should all find a Madonna concert rerun on TV or YouTube video for inspiration on how this should work. I think she used some wireless head mics in her show. The guards could use something like that for sure!

On the down side, the heavy breathing and sound of a potential equipment mishap may be disturbing to young children. What happens if all the cellphones and WiFi signals interfere with the wireless mic signals? That could be disastrous for a show that relies heavily on this innovative presentation.

I assume mods are going to close this, right?

The mods aren't afraid of stimulating and provocative discussion.

But might drill become passé? If so, shouldn't we plan for whatever is going to replace drill? How about laser light shows that create drill evolutions on the field?

I think BD is already on that, Mike. They're building a house to replace drill because a House is NOT a home.... music.gif

Didn't The Cadets mic a couple of guard members in '06 and '07?

I think we'd all like to forget about that.

I think lots of fans would be turning on their cellphones in the hopes of finding out.

A. Guard can already be amped

B. I'm not sure how much stimulating and provocative discussion is going on

and C. Pancakes are better than waffles. And don't even get me started on crepes.
