actucker
thanks i also agree about being judged if its put out there////common sense i think You would think so, but it doesn't seem to be happening a lot of the time.
Jeff Ream
Not quite. Being able to control form anywhere would afford corps the *opportunity* to fix it. Big difference. Corps using untrained staffers as "sound engineers", cobbled-together indoor percussion sound systems and the like are going to sound like crap no matter how much DCI spoon-feeds them. But...but...in all of these proposals and the rationale provided, these guys are the experts from all their work in the band world (insert sarcasm and further proof the stuff submitted to be voted on is pure BS)

All they've proven is that with a couple of exceptions, most corps haven't the foggiest idea how to do A&E right, and even the ones that do it right are only doing it "functionally" and not "well". audiodb
I haven't seen numbers from 2004 on, have you? If we don't know what the attendance was, how can there be a correlational link between attendance and A&E? I have seen numbers, and they have been dropping. audiodb
So, are you saying that folks who were in favor of A&E saw a 2011 show for the first time and decided that we should all sign a petition to get rid of A&E? No....I was responding to your claim that A&E discussion has "no new information". I think people's reactions to first viewings of 2011 shows qualify as "new information". skywhopper
i can agree with all of it........to a point BUT I also think that drum corps in general doesnt attracts the kind of person it did 20 30 40 years ago...so many more options for kids now. I don't think A&E as used in drum corps is going to impress any "kids". If anything the use of electronics in drum corps just compares incredibly poorly to the other "options" out there--concerts, home theater, movies, video games. Now, fully acoustic, plain old LOUD drum corps, that's different. You can't compare it apples to apples with other entertainment options. It stands out as something different than the usual, and quality-wise in terms of acoustic music/performance art options, top quality drum corps is among the very very best quality products. But if we turn it into just another "option" that tries to be like other successful entertainment options, it's not going to stack up nearly as well. This is the thing, though. Corps have the staff and resources to be world-class performing ensembles, but they don't have the staff and resources to put on a full scale electric/electronic stadium concert. By trying to do that, they either sap resources for their core mission or they put out a product that compares unfavorably to what they seem to be trying to be. So how do we, the paying fans, get them to pay attention and get it right? Is this Cesario initiative part 2?
