Galen
Another trip down memory lane in Michigan as I profile Port Huron's Memorial Stadium- a small place to march but still one of my favorite: http://marchingarenas.blogspot.com/2014/08/memorial-stadium-port-huron-mi.html
Galen
Today's a double dip of small former venues from Michigan: Greenville and Belding, both of which have gone through significant upgrades and could play host to events in the future. http://marchingarenas.blogspot.com/2014/08/legacy-fieldblack-field-greenville-mi.html http://marchingarenas.blogspot.com/2014/08/rudness-field-belding-mi.html
Galen
Missing the drum corps season already? Reminisce a bit with my latest stadium posting, looking at the Fort Wayne IN venue from the 2014 season: http://marchingarenas.blogspot.com/2014/09/bishop-darcy-stadium-fort-wayne-in.html
Ghost
And you had time to again enter your NFL picks first! Well done and go Final Three.
LSU GRAD 82
My hope is to help fans considering attending a show to be better informed of what it would be like to go to that show. Essentially it's a preview of the "theater" that may help people better select seats, sections, etc, and also possibly help potential tour and event promoters successfully submit their bids for hosting future competitions. In my 40+ years of going to shows, NOT ONCE did the stadium come into play as one of the considering factors in attending. It's all about what Corps will or will not be there. Could care less about the stadium, even the little high school venues that some of the smaller shows are in. This may prove somewhat helpful in seat selection though for those A.Retentive types that have to know just exactly where they're sitting when even the posted stadium seating chart is not enough. xandandl
Thanks for the photos and memories they recall. Port "Urine" as it was sometimes poorly called BITD especially with hot, Midwestern weather with the frequent thunderstorms and overcast skies, saw many major corps en route to Canadian shows. One memory was after a tight competition, a food truck less Blue Devils being passed food through bus windows from the Garfield Cadets busses, all stuck at customs before entering Windsor, Ontario for Toronto and Montreal shows. Galen
So it's been several months since I've been able to post as I've had several things going on in my life that have been needing more attention, but I will still be doing some posts on and off over the next few months, starting with a look at one of my favorite venues- the Reitz Bowl in Evansville IN. http://marchingarenas.blogspot.com/2015/02/evansville-in-reitz-bowl-its-been.html Also, based on how successful the Bracket Tournament I did last year was, I plan on doing another one this spring, but it'll be different than the last time. This time, instead of focusing on the best corps or best shows, I'll be focusing on the most influential people in drum corps to determine who's played the biggest part in shaping the growth of the activity we all love. I've been planning this for several months and have what I think is a great list of candidates already, but I’ll admit that I certainly don’t know everything there is to know about drum corps history as well. I’ll be posting my initial list in the next couple weeks, and fans are encouraged to suggest their own names as well in the meantime. Wildabeast
Here is Veteran's Memorial Stadium at Buchanan High School in the Fresno/Clovis area of California. The California drum corps competition season starts here with the MidCal Champions Showcase. Schools share their stadiums here (thus the references to Clovis North in this picture). Galen
Back to regular updates after the fun with this year's bracket tournament. Anybody remember Alton IL's little stadium? That's the subject of today's review: http://marchingarenas.blogspot.com/2015/04/alton-il-public-schools-stadium.html
Old Corps Guy
Let's face it, Whitewater will always be the Lambeau Field of Drum Corps. Still hosting a competition each year and a must-see for drum corps faithful.
