garfield
Competition fuels excellence. Not according to several corps directors. Since no corps can control a competitor (except BD, which controls the universe, right Plan?), only each member's personal best should be the goal. (Not that there's anything wrong with that.) Stu
Not according to several corps directors. Since no corps can control a competitor (except BD, which controls the universe, right Plan?), only each member's personal best should be the goal. (Not that there's anything wrong with that.) Then those corps directors are wrong! Here is proof: The competition within the PGA certainly propels the players to perform above the stratosphere; and please show me where a PGA player can control another competitor on or off the course!! It is that competitive element (to win boat loads of money mind you as well as the cup) which drives the PGA golfer's personal best; and it is that level of excellence driven by competition which mesmerizes the fans! "Plop, Plop.........................." 1. when you brush your teeth with pepsodent. 2. lucky strike means fine tobacco 3. gas in your tank(?) 4. fiz, fiz, plop, plop, oh what a relief it is. Ghost gets a 92% and the win... with G and Corpsband "Honorable Mention" (come to think of it...being mentioned in this dated group might not be so honorable ). Thanks for playing...what did Ghost win, Dick? Ghost wins a year supply of Gerotol and the album "Jerry Vale sings the Cowsills" Also some nice parting gifts for G and Corpsband...Pet Rocks (already house trained). ATTENTION: Thread Killer Alert!!!!
MikeD
Also some nice parting gifts for G and Corpsband...Pet Rocks (already house trained). Very nice! especially them being house-trained,. I just HATE stepping on the 'pebbles' they leave behind when they are not trained. If you don't keep up with them, it eventually looks like this... drumno5
Excellence: Ok if it is just excellence we are after then Apollo Ono fits that bill very well without him competing against any other speed skater; let's see how many people would actually pay to watch his excellent short-track skating style unless he is going for the gold! Or, let's see how many people would pay to watch that sixty yard excellent spiral thrown down the field by a university quarterback without the team going for a touchdown. Stu's point is well taken. Witness the popularity of shows like American Idol, America's Next Top Model, Survivor, etc. The element of suspense - who's going to win? who will be...? - inherent in a competitive event is part of the appeal (please, no trolling about slotting, Hopkins or the Blue Devils ). Peace, Fred O.
Arrowmarcher
Both are important, but the real benefit behind marching is the education you get.
