Cadets March Madness Bracket

Recommended Posts

Hey,

I don't know if anybody else saw this, but the Cadets are doing a march madness style bracket on all their shows from 1980 to 2011. I think it is a really good idea, and their are some really good match-ups.

*EDIT*

On first scan, I dismissed this as similar to the basketball bracket thing that President Obama is doing:

http://www.barackobama.com/obama-bracket-challenge?source=ObamaBracketChallenge-20120311-HP

But I didn't realize that they were doing CADETS SHOWS!!?!?!!?!

Genious idea! :) Wish the marketing was just a shade clearer.

Every corps should do this (regular season/conference tourneys), then send shows with best "records" to DCI(re: NCAA) Tournament! Every year would change because shows would be paired differently and have an addition of 20-something new shows every year! :)

Wow, you definitely have some "1 vs 16 seed" matchups (89 vs 08  ) but there were some grueling choices! (Having to pick between 87 and 92 or 93 and 01 in the first round! Wow....

Mine..

1982 over 1999 (love the 82 opener)

2004 over 2009 (there is only ONE WS show)

2000 over 1988

1987 over 1992 (seriously?? first round matchup? who seeds this thing? haha, 87 in Overtime!)

1990 over 1981

2003 over 1994 (again there is only ONE WS show)

2005 over 1997

1983 over 1986 (interesting their first championship against show that ended the streak)

1998 over 1980

1985 over 2003 (more Cadet magic in the day when we all went...how do they do that?)

1996 over 2007

1993 over 2001

2011 over 1991

2010 over 2005

1984 over 1995 (tough cause I liked the 1995 show and would have picked over a bunch)

1989 over 2008 (1989, love the opening phrase)

I had the same problem with the seeding. Seems like they should have seeded it by placement to avoid the 87 vs. 92 in the first round. You would still get some upsets like a 1st place year going up against 89. If you seed it by placement and break the ties by the score, the seeding would have ended up like this.

Seed 1 2005 vs. Seed 32 1980

Seed 2 1984 vs. Seed 31 1981

Seed 3 1998 vs. Seed 30 1991

Seed 4 2011 vs. Seed 29 2006

Seed 5 1984 vs. Seed 28 2008

Seed 6 1987 vs. Seed 27 2010

Seed 7 1990 vs. Seed 26 1989 (upset alert)

Seed 8 2000 vs. Seed 25 2004

Seed 9 1993 vs. Seed 24 1986

Seed 10 1983 vs. Seed 23 1988

Seed 11 1994 vs. Seed 22 1999

Seed 12 1997 vs. Seed 21 1982

Seed 13 1995 vs. Seed 20 2002 (interesting since similar shows)

Seed 14 2007 vs. Seed 19 1996 (tough call)

Seed 15 1992 vs. Seed 18 2003 (kinda tough call)

Seed 16 2001 vs. Seed 17 2009 (really tough call)

All of the tough match-ups would of course be in the middle seeds where they are supposed to be. Then you would some better "games" in the second round. Oh well.

Who thinks up this stuff? The organization keeps coming up with brilliant ideas. We should try to list them all, knowing we won't remember all the special fund-raisers and other promotional things the corps' organization has thought up.

I'll start...The fund-raiser to get George Hopkins to stay completely off the Internet last year when he went to Clearwater, Florida for baseball spring training. What did they raise on that one alone...$10,000?
