Jeremy!
You're not alone as far as I am concerned. As much as I am rooting for anything that Ralph Hardimon is involved with (He's EASILY my favorite personality of all my past instructors), I was not too impressed with BK either. The science fiction sounds were...well...comical. It is definitely a maturely designed show with a lot of artistic elemements and demand. But, it was distracting and to me. I lump them in with Cadets (edited: and Cavaliers), with shows that show off talent in the corps, but don't hit me in the heart. And I am not a big fan of the seemng 5 minutes at the beginning of the show (pre-judged portion) where the horn line isn't even carrying their instruments. There are moments of greatness, but overall it was not my cup of tea. What about the squeezy duck noises in BD? I feel these noises fit in with the themes of their shows. fifer
I don't think you can make that claim and back it up with reasonable facts. There's still a lot of time in the season. PR has yet to add their ending which is supposidly going to include some big changes. I know it's a long shot, but I still like to think of this race as having three horses. My favorite horse has always been the darkest. I sure hope Phantom’s new ending will bring the show more in line with the story of Turandot. Right now the show feels, to me anyway, like a mash-up of Spartacus (aggressive and murder) and Juliet (same guard, different outfits) with a Rhapsody ending (even the “happy couple” comes down front at the end exactly like they did in 2005). Turandot does NOT have a happy ending – she is NOT happy that he answers the three riddles and doesn’t end up getting killed. It’d also be great if they can find a way to tone down the big impact at around the 7 minute mark when it sounds/feels like the end of the show. They have such a strong, well-performing corps, but I think these design issues (along with a not quite good enough to win drumline) will keep them from getting any higher than 3rd. I have my fingers and toes crossed that Crossmen can keep surprising us and jump solidly into a finals spot.
fsubone
My heart is telling me Crossmen, but my head is saying Blue Stars. I'll be watching from the FN and may have to leave the room when the announcer gets up around 14th. I honestly don't know where it will fall. Both corps have experience in Finals, so they both have staffs that know what needs to be done to get Finals clean. I think since Crossmen are cleaner, they could take it, but Blue Stars are cleaning up nicely. I think Atlanta will really be tight with these two, and I honestly think Friday of Finals week will be extremely stressful for these two corps. 3PoC
In all honesty I'm having a hard time believing that BK is an 11th place corps. I was not impressed at the minneapolis regional, and adding techno to firebird suite? Cmon guys... I can't be the only one who thinks that is ridiculous. I grew up with "Techno Firebird" as I had this on 8 track back in 1975! I am guessing that this is some of the inspiration for the BK show. flammaster
in a year stacked with incredible percussion sections, people think 7th is a disaster. Oh yea! good point. When I went to the Stanford show I was blown away at how good EVERYONE was! Even 20th place is going to be something to brag about! I'm still gonna say watch out for Cavaliers! They are going to move up. I'm hoping for SCV big time too!

Oh wow! That is what their synth sounded like when I saw them but I think they toned it down big time. Either that of I just couldn't hear it on FN. I like that synth sound more than trying to sound like an acoustic instrument.

Sportster
Wouldn't surprise me if Phantom comes up and takes it like they did in 96', this time without splitting with BD. But I'd love to see Crown win also. Either of those two, or even Cadets.....
MotorCityMusician
Mark my words... The Academy is about to shock the world and make Finals. I know it was windy tonight but i dont see that show catching up. Not enough demand visually and it was really dirty. Everyone was saying alot more holes then SA.
