Favorite Moments 2012

Recommended Posts

The seasons almost over! :( and it's about time to think about what some of our favorite moments or nuances were from the shows that took us by surprise, wowed us, or thought were just cool, different and awesome!

Some of mine:

-Cadets company front (the first one after the singing) and the soloist!

-Crown throwing their horns in the air and the rotating cube drill and the bassdrums perfectly timed all over the field!

-BD (cant believe I'm saying it!) but the end of the Danny Elfman tune where they are in triangle was the best moment of their show!

There are many more! What are yours?

BD's slow build and dissonant chords at the end of Bird and Bela (with the entire corps backing away from the front of the field ominously before bursting out and spreading all over the field)

Phantom's guard uniform reveal in the closer

Boston's high brass sustain at the end of the ballad

BK's first drill sequence where they gradually form the spaceship - best drill move in DCI this year

SCV's down ending

Glassmen - end of the opener (just really exciting arranging)

Spirit - trumpet solos

Bloo - ballad(s) - best in DCI this year

Crown: When they hit dreams in the spiral

Bd: When they play the song from "The Artist"

Spirit: ALL OF SPIRIT!

Phantom Regiment: The aggressiveness in the opening. Very chilling

Boston: Pines of Rome

Cadets: The closer

Bd--opening (so ######)

Crown--last fanfare motif (high register)

Cadets--silent drill with the silver flags in opener

PR--nessun dorma from last bit of solo (bass drum triplets) to end

SCV--very end with SCV logo, cymbal line, and portrait in guard flags (very classy)

BD: Danny Elfman moment, Satie moment, being challenged to catch it all

Crown: Fanfare

PR: Intro and Nessun, coloruard, drill musicality

Boston: Preshow

Spirit: Oh the sophisticated and accessible variety

Crossmen: Clear identity

Oregon Crusaders....Appalachian Spring, through bass drum feature (ridiculous) and fast ending with the call-outs to Garfield, BD and Cavies...with 64 horns

...leap from your seat, hair on the neck, fist pumping type stuff

Bloo - the soloists sweet tone, the ballads (props Doug Thrower), and the eighth note section in the closer with isolated sections

SCV - the fluidity of the music and intermeshing of pieces

BD - The jazz section with the fast half time marching. Very catchy

Xmen - that baritone soloist has one of the best tones in DCI this year. What a section! That maltese cross build up

Madison - the sustained energy through Malaguena section. That did it for me way more than the company front (seen it, been there, done that).

Boston - WOW what a line. If you would have told me five years ago Boston was doing Titan I would have split a side from laughing. This line has become a powerhouse of grace and tone ever since 09 and they pull this book off incredibly.

When SCV played "Music of the Night" in their encore at Omaha, and you just knew they were going to add it in somehow.

BK's first drill sequence where they gradually form the spaceship - best drill move in DCI this year

Is that the drill move in the upper left hand corner that first looks like a blob - then some hornline members rotate into a pinwheel gate position allowing the guard to move to the center?

It is one of my favourite moves of the year!
