You know you're old school when...

What's this nonsense about "rotors" ? Old school means "slides!!

The dead end in Branch Brook Park

Winter practice at Elizabeth Armory, with another corps waiting till you were done for their 2 hours.

Five or Six shows ayear in Newark

I started with a slide. Progessed to Rotor/Valve. Never made it to 2 valve.

How about The Newark Armory or standstill shows at the Philly Armory?

Evening with the Corps at Symphony Hall in Newark - Carnegie Hall in NY or Madison Square Garden Felt Forum.

Seeing all the corps in a show before Memorial Day with a finished show.

Back then, it was the marchers fighting.

Today, the marchers are fine, and the adults in Corps are at one another's throats.

You are " old school " if you remember when it was mostly the marchers in Corps that had to be separated by the adults in Corps, instead of the other way around.

True. I remember some older folks mentioning that a couple of corps were actually shut down back in the day because of getting in fights in parking lots after shows.

You are "old School " when you don't recall " water breaks ", but you recall " smoke breaks "

and not for cigarettes

You know you are " old school " if the city or town that was listed on your Drum Corps busses and equipment trucks was where you lived.

You marched 71 VFW prelims in black wool uniforms at 2 in the afternoon with 120+ field temp, then in the stands wondered why so many other corps had members passing out on the field.......forgetting most corps didn't practice in a swamp.

Having to shave my beard for VFW inspections

Bringing groceries with you because you never knew when you would stop and eat.

Cooking Spam on sterno stoves in the back of the bus.

TRusting someone to hold you by your belt while you tried to pee out the door as you went down the interstate

When you had to have enough money in your "food bank" to make each tour and being able to eat well on the $3 a day

Being pulled over by state troopers because your buses look unsafe.

Piling the wole corps on one bus for the 8 hour ride home because the other bus was unfixable

Buying Fleetwood records at 3 for $5.

Rigging car batteries and speakers in the back of the bus to play the 8 track tapes

filling the drink cooler in the front of the bus with orange juice and vodka

The actual joy of eating at a Union 76 truck stop, even in Effingham Ill.

Being in such a small corps, other corps in the circuit would bring you to their houses to eat a good meal at their home show ( Maple City Cadets , Flint Guardsmen, )

You are " old school " if your corps traveled to a nearby state for a particular show and considered it " touring ".

You are " old school " if " the Children of Sanchez " wasn't a song, but who marched in your Corps.
