Madison Scouts 2014 -- Playing the Music of Stan Kenton and Don Ellis

Recommended Posts

Interesting that those hating on the Scouts as of late have nothing to say as the corps has improved in the score department.

Let me guess, those hating on the corps think it's a fluke because thus corps wasn't there, or maybe there wasn't a guard judge, or they only had 7 snares, or blah blah blah.

Bitter, party of one, your 11th place finish is ready.

It's funny how people equate not digging a show with hating on a corps. I don't know that anyone in this thread has ever expressed hate for the corps or its members. That said, the show design this is right on par with being locked in an elevator and listening to musak for 13 minutes, or having one's eyes gouged out with a dull butter knife. I still love the corps and the kids, but seriously question the people designing the shows.

Bring back the Madison we all know and love and you won't have all this hate.

There, problem solved. You can thank me later.

Yes, because constant ridicule and no support by some is love, right?

Wow, you always seem to chime in when I write.

Bitter? What I can't call people out that are constantly criticizing a corps they have given up on and probably did as a fan and financially years ago?

You clearly have no respect for the corps or those that actually like the 2014 show and thinks that there is more to life than finals placement, so why are you in here?

Now do like you always do and make a failed attempt at picking apart what I wrote and not answer my question.

I'm starting to think, as are others , that those criticizing and claiming to be alums are fictional. Let's see if they have the guys to say who they are, or if they won't do that, who some people were they marched with.

You game Flamman? You must have marched, if you did between 1971-1982, with all your spat and "10-12" man snare lines, so what years, who'd you march with? Who was your section leader, your seat partner. Also, you must have marched pre-1979 as that snare line was 8 and since then to now the only line over 9 was once again the the 12 in 98 for the opener.

Hockeydad, I know you're not an alum, but go ahead and criticize this post, since you're probably not fictional, but have zero connection to the corps.

Who's game?

Its not so much that the scouts need to play music from the past just that the scouts have to get back to doing shows in general the madison way. Loud and proud. Not fancy and dancy

OK kid, Settle down. I'm not the guy that said Madison was doing high speed drill. What I consider high speed drill is what the Cadets were doing a few years back. LOL! Sorry if I offended your delicate sensibilities about the prop filled fiasco.

I'm not the biggest fan of props but Blue Stars are nailing their show visually in a way that hasn't happened since 2011. Crown last year had the craziest drill I'd seen in a while. Cadets haven't done high velocity drill for years now. Sorry for my misdirected comment, but having marched high velocity drill in 09 and 11 Madisons show to my eyes is nothing to write home about.

1983 we marched 10....had planned on 12. 1982 we marched 10 through 1st tour. I believe 1979 started season with 12 and cut down to 10....Peter Theo's first year at age 16. Oh my bus mate in 82 was Chris Crockrell, and both 82 & 83 section leader was Todd Herrick.

Has anyone ever really thought that the way the drum corps activity has changed and continuing to morph into something totally different as compared go even 5 years ago that Madison just could not be the Madison of old and compete on a high level? If they did that, they would not even be in the top 15 in today's activity. Sorry to say but they have to change and move forward visually and musically from the Madison of old. I envision music that is more harmonic, maybe pseudo classical with a slower more big, flowing type of drill. Music that us not so much aggressive and exposed as it is harmonic and beautiful.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that you aren't a fan of props. However, a fiasco? No, you may not be a props person, but tell Devils, and crown, and Bluecoats, and, and, and, .........they aren't working....
