First on the field in competition is Pioneer from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Their 2014 program is entitled JOY! and consists of:

A Mighty Fortress by Luther, Martin
We Gather Together
Saints Hallelujah
Irish Tune From County Derry by Grainger, Percy
Gary Owen March by Traditional

The show opens with a bell ringing from the pit, much like a bell you'd hear at a dock from a fishing vessel. Drum line comes in from a single snare to the full line. Strong opening from the brass on the Mighty Fortress intro. The arrangement is the GLAD arrangement used by corps like the Glassmen and Carolina Crown. Horns still have a good sound but I do hear individuals due to feet in the sound. I'm loving the energy though!

The opener ends in a cross formation. After a quick stop for applause, we move into the next selection, We Gather Together.

Some timing issues in the brass. We also have balance issues between the pit and the field. There's 14 pit members compared to 30 horns and 22 marching percussion.

Small brass ensemble during Saints Hallelujah, a gospel rendition of the When the Saints Go Marching In. Lone snare providing the beat. Pit has church organ coming from it.

There's a group of large scaffold-type objects on the field getting rolled around. They are probably incomplete and will have some type of fabric or imagery on them to provide a framework around the smaller sized corps.

Drum solo with half the guard on rifles in front of them. Crowd likes it.

Now into the Hallelujah Chorus for a moment before going into a medley of the two.

Corps opens Irish Tune from County Derry (Danny Boy for the rest of you) backfield. Guard and percussion moving the scaffolds except for a quartet of sabres.

Horns turn front to finish County Derry before moving into the corps song and closer, Gary Owen.

Reprise of Mighty Fortress and a final closing statement with fast paced drill to end the show with a Shamrock drill form.

Crowd up on their feet. Great job, Pioneer!

A fun show, but I wonder if having the full sized drum line is going to hurt them in the end. Maybe if they can fill out that horn line.
