"DCI All-Star Review," Bowling Green, OH

Recommended Posts

Guard is in black suits, representing Stan Kenton. The show is showing the progression from Kenton's style to Ellis'. Of course, the jazzy style is something which is going to take some cleaning to really get down, but they're already getting the crowd into the show from the first note.

Some timing issues due to the fast tempo during Passacaglia and Fugue. That section is going to get some work tomorrow, I'm guessing.

Percussion is aggressive so far in both their features.

U.S.A. U.S.A

<sorry back your drum corps thread>

We do have a TV tuned to the game up here in the booth. :D

There's a guard member who starts in the far back corner and, throughout the show, moves diagonally towards the front. His suit is more mottled and camo like. I'm assuming he represents the new wave of jazz coming.

Concerto to End All Concertos. Yes, they use trombones here, but the glissando work which the piece demands just isn't possible any other way.

During Bulgarian Bulge, the snares attach a tom to the right side of their drum.

And, of course, once you start playing Ellis, 4/4 time signatures are out the window.

Great almost shout section by the Scouts to close out Bulgarian Bulge. Guard is providing a lot of the color against the nearly all white uniforms of the rest of the corps, especially with neon yellow sabres and neon orange flag poles.

Trumpet trio up front during Star Children, doing what Madison high brass players have been doing for a LONG time.

Whereas 27th Lancers played the opening of Open Wide on the drums, Madison goes with the original chanting.

Final Analysis brings back memories of '85 Velvet Knights, although without the usual VK nuttiness.
