Rotary Music Festival - Cedarburg WI

This is stupid. I don't care how good you are. At this "rate" of improvement in the past two weeks, the Blue Devils will score 118 at Finals.

EDIT: Sorry, 118.7 by Finals. Since they've improved 13 points in two weeks, the remaining 5 weeks will account for 13 + 13 + 6.5 + 86.2.

I agree, here's when a corps matched or topped Blue Devils score from tonight over the years.

2013 - July 15th

2012 - July 14th

2011 - July 17th

2010 - July 10th

2009 - July 14th

2008 - July 12th

2007 - July 8th

2006 - July 9th

2005 - July 12th

2004 - July 8th

2003 - July 8th

2002 - July 7th

2001 - July 7th

And I gave up after that.

Yeah... no shade towards BD, but I'm going to have to throw out a challenge flag on that score.

I actually like BD this year, but this is just so very wrong in my opinion. Even if Star of Indiana landed on that field from 1991-1993 tonight.

So basically, we have to go back nearly 30 years. When there was a completely different way/philosophy of judging. Makes sense.

Also it should be noted that the 1987 Phantom Regiment score was a DCM show, IN ROCKFORD.

And the 1984 show was in Fresno, with BD 86.60 in 1st, and Troopers in 2nd with a 58.20. There wasn't much competition to say the least. :)

86?? Really?

I'm thinking either they're just that good, or it's a spread thing. There's no way they can be 5 points ahead of every else at this point. Can they??

No way Scouts deserve 76 points right now anyway. Not knocking on them, I just don't see the show being demanding enough to be at that level at the moment.

Jersey Serf got a 63.9, and Madison had to be at least SOME level ahead of them...so maybe 76 was arbitrary, and then the same thing with BD.

We won't know anything until BD goes head to head with the other 3. Cadets, Crown, 'Coats.

So for now, I'm not going to take 86 points all that seriously.

And you shouldn't, as its meaningless. ( nobody believes that BD is going to a have a 4.5 point spread over the group of Cadets, Bluecoats, Crown when they meet head to head.). But you should take very seriously that BD could very well win it all once again this year.

I thought 1984 was the first year of build-up judging, as opposed to the tic method, and continues today. That's why I stopped at that point. But it does seem like some sort of adjustment happened following the first four years of the new system.

The Blue Devils are going to have a problem with marching GE, simply because creating one amazingly perfect rotating vertical company front for five seconds doesn't cut it in the exposed difficulty category, exquisite as it may be.

And they're also going to have trouble with field coverage-- it's pretty cramped and close in, 35 to 35, a lot of the time.

They also have to figure out a way to create a unison effect at the end. It's still a three ring circus, and all the elements are disparate and disconnected with a lot of stage pieces cluttering the field. A three ring circus is fine, but integrating the three rings, especially at the end, with some real motion and field coverage to create a sprawling, epic effect will prove a challenge.
