Crown did some of Barber's 2nd Essay back in 2002, but I'd love to hear a corps tackle it again.  

The scherzo section. I think "smurfs" every time I hear it so there's a show concept for you lol:

The finale. Extremely rubato so hard to make work, but the brass writing and chord progressions are pretty stunnin

Has any corps Played "Being Alive" from COMPANY..If so who and what year?..Heard it on a PBS special  honoring Sondheim...perfect for BD, Cadets, Crown and BAC  imo...peace

Not so much a music/design concept, but this approach would definitely bring a lot of engagement...

Thanks again for the info...just listened to 27th and with today's instrumentation imagined the arrangement to be OUTRAGEOUS..peace

Frank Dorritie, Charley Poole and Mark Kohler were responsible for that masterful music design, and it was a spiritual experience for those who taught it and performed it. There is a little known story behind one segment of that show. Don Angelica was brought in as a sub rosa consultant. He strongly urged that "Being Alive" be included in the show. Little did most of us know that at that time, he was terminally ill. 

It is a show that lives in our hearts and minds to this day.
