New Judges...Comments?

Recommended Posts

Fabulous news. It's way past due.

"The corps in Michigan City have really upped their game." The level of performance is at an incredibly hard level.

This from the head judging dood while some here claim Michigan City is, essentially, HS band.

Not being a judge I can only guess, but I wonder how much "freshness" the new judges will be able to bring with the level of scrutiny they're under from the corps themselves through the judging system.

it probably won't make any long time cynical DCP'ers change their cynical views of other Drum Corps fans. But we can at least hope so anyway.

Also, maybe the new judges will be greeted by long time supporters of the current judging system with the same level of support that they currently have for the judges that we have now have that were still in their 20's and writing the rules , and judging on Finals Night BITD. We might not see a judge ever again in their 20's judging on Finals Night as we've had in the past in DCI, but how refreshing and positive it is to know that we just might see someone judging on Finals Night that is under 45 and not a current member of the AARP ( or on their mailing list ).

Any young, new female judges in this new mix, does anybody know ? or is this still mostly a good ol boy network, where the old guys groom the young guys for the future DCI judging gigs ?

Could one surmise that many new judges migrate from the band side of the street? Maybe someone from the band family can address your question.

Wasn't the last female judge discussed here someone who decided to wear something different than the "norm?" I seem to remember a couple of posters said they contacted DCI to express their extreme concern about it...

Or maybe I just dreamt the whole thing.

Yes DCI Judge, Beth Fabrizio went out and judged an early DCI show last season, and her slovenly attire that evening did raise some eyebrows. She made herself " the story " that evening ( intead of the Corps ), as there were several comments on DCP by posters on her rather odd and rather poor choice of attire ( motley looking, ill fitting, wringled shawl over some ratty and old looking jeans ) to judge Corps in performance. Ironically, Corps spend considerable time and effort to try and attain just the right look that they want in their judged performance. Ms. Fabrizio, an otherwise competent judge, by contrast, looked like she quickly slapped together whatever the cat dragged in from dumpster forraging, and then quickly put into her travel suitcase. I was not aware that the DCI office received complaints on her attire ( but not all that surprised, frankly ) To her credit, either she heard of the criticisms, or was given a talking too by somebody at DCI, or she simply came to her senses, as later in the season in her judged assignments, she looked much more professional in her chosen attire and more befitting for the role of a DCI Judge.
