Historic Possibilities

  • The Blue Devils have won the past 8 Colorguard trophies.... the longest streak for any single caption winner. So either this amazing streak ends, or BD puts up 9 in a row.
  • If Crown or Bluecoats happen to take guard, it will be the first non-BD/Cadets/Cavies guard win since Phantom got it, all the way back in 1988!
  • Conversely, the drum trophy has not had a back to back winner since Cadets got 3 in a row in 2001-2003. Since BD won last year, and seem to be a little off their game in percussion this year, this streak will likely continue.
  • Crown is in position to win their 5th overall medal, which would actually tie them with the Madison Scouts for 6th all time.
  • If the Blue Devils happen to slip to 3rd place (and it is Crown and Bluecoats as the top 2), it will be the first time since 1972 (DCI's inaugural season) that at least one of the big four (BD/Cadets/Cavies/SCV) is not in the top two!

That says it all.

If Crown gets 3rd place, it will not only be the first time they get 3rd place, but they will also be the second corps (after Madison) to be placed in every spot of the top 12.

Crown hasn't placed in ninth.

Though some on the Crown thread think they're headed in that direction since they changed their ending... :)

They would still be short a 9th place slot.

If the Bluecoats win this season, it will be the first time a Drum Corps based in Ohio has ever won a Drum Corps National Championship in the World Class Division... ( I went back to 1933 where the historical records began). No Corps from Arizona has ever made the Top 12 in recorded history either. ( and as mentioned above, no National Championships Top 12 in Drum Corps recorded history ( going back to 1933.. DCI/AL/VFW ) has not had at least 1 Top 12 Finalist Corps from New England, New York, or New Jersey... some years they had as many as 6 in the Top 12.)

ps.... I did notice that the 1970 American Legion National Championships took place on August 29th, 1970 in Portland, Oregon and had 22 Corps in the Prelims. No Corps from the East Coast of NY/NJ/ NE however went out there and competed with the 22 Corps there for the Top 12, and the Finals Night Competition. So while its true that no Corps from NY/NJ/ NE made the Top 12 that year, no Corps from NY/NJ/NE went out to Portland, Oregon to compete for a spot in the Top 12 that year. As far as I can tell however, going back to recorded Drum Corps History from 1933, Corps from NY/NJ/ NE that competed in the ( Junior Corps ) Drum Corps National Championships, always had between 1-6 Corps in the Top 12 every year. ( that 82 year consecutive streak is susceptible to ending this week however ).
