Hyponatremia occurs when the concentration of sodium in your blood is abnormally low. Sodium is an electrolyte, and it helps regulate the amount of water that's in and around your cells. Symptoms Hyponatremia signs and symptoms may include: Nausea and vomiting Headache Confusion Loss of energy, drowsiness and fatigue Restlessness and irritability Muscle weakness, spasms or cramps Seizures Coma I had hyponatremia on a multi-day bike ride. I was drinking all kinds of water but there was no sodium in my body to retain it so it just flushed out as quickly as I drank it. It is a very serious condition. Let's hope they all drink plenty of gatorade and eat some salty chips!

Turns out my med had to be changed up because it was lowering my sodium level. I drink a lot of smart water in the summer because I don’t want that to happen again. Went down like a ton of bricks during the national anthem. I woke up and people were throwing water on me. Jim thought I was dead. It really scared me and I don’t scare easy.

It is just further evidence of how very important electrolytes are and that water alone doesn't cut it when conditions are extreme. 2
