“I guess the early season results which were NOT head-to-head were pretty accurate.  Who would have thunk it?”

I imagine if a stat enthusiast were to look at recent years, they might see similar results.  There usually are very few major gains/drops after SA.

Major gains...no. Placement gains? Yes.

Cavs ran down Cadets in 16 to place 5th after trailing them through the whole second half of the season.
Cavs alsro ran down Bluecoats in 17 after never beating them all season.
And Cavs got run down by BAC a week after San Antonio in 18 and couldn't reclaim their turf.

It does happen.

Maybe I should have typed very few major placement gains, like more than one spot, between SA and finals.  The Cavies passing the Cadets at SF in 16 was a one position move.  Several corps that year moved up a position after SA.  Academy and Boston moving up one spot forced Madison to drop two spots.

Well, they were taking subcaption ordinals from them, head-to-head on the West coast.  While that doesn't make it probable this would happen, it is certainly possible.

I haven't seen either show but there are about five corps currently hovering in that 80 point range.  It will be interesting to see who can tweak their show to add points which will separate them from others in that group.

Well yes, obviously. Saying stuff is possible doesn’t make for interesting conversation though! 🙂

Would BD and Cadets running the Cavs down in 2011 after San Antonio count? And if memory serves correct, Cavs was nearly two pointing the entire field first month of the season.
