Songs you associate with drum corps

Recommended Posts

My biggest one has to be My Body Is A Cage. I liked Arcade Fire before I got into DCI but now all I hear is the SCV cover. I'm always let down when I expect the big screamer but then remember I'm not listening to Babylon🤣

What's a song that always makes you think of drum corps?

Simple Gifts

Fanfare For The Common Man

West Side Story Soundtrack

Music of Barber and Bartok

Elsas Procession to the Cathedral

Wow, so many.  But from my first live experience in either ‘79 or ‘80,

“Tiger of San Pedro”, “Greensleeves” - The Guardsmen

”Seahawk Overture”, “Niner Two” - 27th Lancers

”Stone Ground Seven”, “Bottle Dance” - SCV

“Let It Be Me”, Nutville”, Sweet Georgia Brown” - Spirit of Atlanta

”Ice Castles”, “Malagueña” - Madison Scouts

“New York Fantasy”, You Gotta Try” - Blue Devils

”Hall of the Mountain King, “Elsa’s” - Phantom Regiment

“In the Stone”, “Big Noise”, “The Pursuit of the Lady” - Bridgemen

Honestly, I'm not so entertained by videos of drum corps of that era.

But if I had a time machine, I'd (i) take out baby Hitler, then (ii) stop off to see a finals week from around then, because I do love some of these old charts.

Blue Devils 2000 show - all Bernard Herrmann film music. Man, what a god Herrmann was. I have the complete film scores for Psycho and Vertigo on CD.

BD 2000 is a HIGHLY underrated show. Finished 4th, which is pretty unthinkable for BD.

"Night Piece for Orchestra" from Taxi Driver

"North by Northwest"

Anyone remember the "State of the Art II" CD, studio recordings of 2000 SCV and BD?

Am I dating myself?

This…was featured in one of my HS shows quite heavily(opener and closer) not so coincidentally, my head band director marched SCV ‘03, so that was a music choice I’m sure he remembers quite vividly😂

but hey it was my hs’ best competitive year in a long time, and our drumline was KILLER that year too👀
