PR has been my favorite corps for years.... I'll leave it at that.

I'd like to try to start the normalizing of removal of hats during Elsa's out of reverence... and maybe even during Ave Maria... They're both special compositions in the past history of the corps, obviously Elsa's is a lot more important for obvious reasons, but they're both very special.

Phantom has kinda struggled the last few years with utilizing modern electronic capabilities in their shows, so I think it’s pretty cool that they’re just making a whole caption dedicated to that stuff! Really demonstrates a commitment to putting a top-tier product on the field and making sure percussion leadership isn’t bogged down with this aspect of show design and performance. Innovative stuff from Phantom!

While up there on Friday, Rob Ferguson was working with JD and Jerry Lefner on audio. You could tell it was the first time Rob was seeing the show and was giving ideas to JD on how to improve the electronic capabilities to the show.

Bring out the Drum Set here, add a sound effect here, bring up the mic on the timpani there.

Most if not all ideas were good ones and the next time they ran that chunk those updates were added. As a person who doesn't like amplification, i appreciated the updates but would wish for the days prior to.

I respectfully disagree. I feel that the removal of one's hat should be reserved for our one and only National Anthem or within the confines of a religious building. I also take issue with US flags at half-staff for pop icons. US flag reverence should be reserved for heads of state of high stature. The public should not be instructed to remove their hats for a corps song.

I agree. I have asked members of my family numerous times over the last few years, “Why is the flag at half staff this time?” It seems like it is lowered most of the time now, which makes it nearly meaningless, IMHO.

I'm happy that Regiment percussion has a new set of designers and instructors, but it's good to see that Rob is still involved.

I'll listen to it around 400 more times today. But my initial reaction is that the warning of this edition of Phantom Regiment being different was not overblown - it's indeed different, and that's okay. If it doesn't work out, they should be applauded for trying something different - there's always more Tchaikovsky to explore next year.

It seems to me like a more competent attempt at doing the kind of show they tried in 2018. Take the weirdness of Mandarins but add more melodic content (and that's no knock on Mandies).

I was worried that the Rach 2 may not be a good fit with everything else, but I think it is, especially with how it is arranged. That said, it seems like someone said "we need to put something recognizable in there."

I agree! The performance and themes of the show as described at the concert in the park, makes me think of a part two or redux of the 2018 "This New World" show, even down to the visual design of uniforms, logo, colors, etc.

I think this show will be much more successful at achieving their desired outcomes of taking Regiment to new places and reinventing themselves for the future.
