What is wrong with US?

When I was in the Navy, we were taught if we had a problem, to handle it at the lowest level. If that doesn't work, you take it to the next level and the next and the next until the issue is fixed (and I'm talking about certain issues, so let's not twist my words here). I was never taught to go directly to the media (or social media, although we know a lot of people have done that) to get the issues fixed. While that doesn't always work, it's a start.

Problem - multiple corps are being sidelined, either for a year or permanently.  Louisiana Stars.  Legends.  Both SCV corps.  Southwind.  Cadets.  Most cite inability to meet costs; one simply had no one to run the corps.  Cadets have both of those hurdles.  Go!

Where should I take this?

Are these problems considered dirty laundry? Are they problems that were caused directly by the organizations actions (or lack thereof)? Did the pandemic contribute to their inability to meet costs? Were there other factors in play?

There was what I consider a minor issue with state filings (501c3 nonprofit vs. charity certificate). That could have been handled by going to Cadets  directly and not brought up at all on DCP. It’s this sort of thing that begs the OP’s question, I think.

Their timing of creating a new non-profit org to manage the corps was as bad as imaginable, given how it disqualified them from receiving some of the largest government grants because they hadn't been in business as the new non-profit long enough to establish a base for SVOG funds (if I'm incorrect on that front and Cadets did receive SVOG, someone please correct me, but they don't show up on SBA's list of grantees).

It's understandable that they needed a fresh start to escape the stench of the Hopkins era, but that ended up having an unexpected cost.

Yeah I'm sure they were trying to put the corps in a position to survive as well as to move on from the circumstances at that time.

Question - what is the root cause of Cadets inability to field a corps in 2024?  Second question - what are the corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence?    I would want to know some fairly straightforward answers to these questions before I would consider entertaining responding to the - Stay tuned from information on how You can help! - posting from them.

To date the only thing I saw was that unexpected expenses kinda snuck up on them.  Oops!  But hey, there’s big plans in place for 2025!

Kinda speaks directly to Jeff’s point - paint the rosy picture. Gloss over it. I would never throw good money after bad. I’d want real answers.

I am not affiliated with the Cadets as far as staff or otherwise. I only marched and now I donate. Any attitude you think you're getting from me (which is none) would be coming directly from ME and not Cadets. And I think a lot of people on this site could practice a little humility.

I know you’re not in corps leadership. That’s why I wrote it that way, so you’d know I wasn’t directing it at you. I guess that was a fail.

P. S.  Fun fact - I was in the navy too. CGN-36. Long ago and far away.

You win I guess. I was there to escort you and take the missile hit so you wouldn’t.

You win actually. The lines are shorter.
