81Freelancers
I should know this, but why aren't the 1981 Freelancers included on the DCI Legacy Series DVDs? They made 12th place but instread the DVDs have the Sky Ryders in their place.
leed17
I believe it is because 1981 Videos are from DCI Whitewater show, not finals in Montreal...Freelancers were either not at Whitewater or did not place high enough for 12th at that show. 1981 finals was not recorded due to some legal issues in Canada. Unfortunately, the only video of Freelancers from that week is the High Camera video from prelims... Edit: Just checked scores, and they placed 14th at prelims in Whitewater Edited December 20, 2023 by leed17
traverbanking
In 1981, the Madison PBS station, which was producing the annual PBS presentation, did not want to deal with the cross-border aspects of producing its presentation from Montreal. So, instead, they broadcast the finals of the DCI-Whitewater contest.
jimwolf359
Video was from the Midwest Regional Finals. Freelancers finished 13th in the Prelims.
Rudy Wiedoeft
Wow, I have always been bummed that my age out year at 1981 DCI Finals with 27 was never on video. My sympathies to Freelancer members who didn’t even have the Midwest video.

The shows are not yet perfected and I feel like I’m watching an actual show during the mid-summer.

TenHut
Madison won this show and it is the highlight of my matching career. Loudest crowd response I have ever heard at a drum corps show.
