ajedrummer
brrrrr.... inspection! Don't miss that a bit! Oh yeah!! We sweated inspections more than anything - mostly because we felt that we could not let our American Legion and VFW sponsoring posts down! The other killer was the shortened prelim show. What a drag when you knew going in that you had NO SHOT at making finals, but we had to spend a week or more cutting six minutes out of the show. jim
mobrien
Grayslake Cadets Grayslake, Illinois Within a couple of years, they had changed their names to the Scarlet Knights, and stayed with the moniker until they folded in the late 70s. Wonder what the kid played.... Edited December 16, 2009 by mobrien

(was involved in drum corps for around 35 years at this time, 25 as a playing member in various Chicago area corps) Dennis McCurdy, joined Cavaliers in late 1957 (his brother Chuck was already a member) went on to become one of the corps finest soloists. Began his career as a Bass horn, then Tenor, then Soprano. HornsUp
Austin Grenadiers Chicago, Illinois A dozen+ years later, those same blue & white satins were worn by the color guard girls of Kenosha's OLHR Queensmen. The DM is Glenn Smith, who later became infamous as the proprietor of Smith Music Sales and their fabled bugle models.
drumno5
This is so hard to believe. St. Vinny's were like alter boys. Yeah, Father Wojtycha probably herded them all into confession when they got back to Bayonne. Edited December 17, 2009 by drumno5

BobB
Cavaliers 1965 VFW Nationals Great photo! Talk about in-yer-face judging..... (And is that judge Rod Goodhart? The posture looks familiar.... )
HornsUp
brrrrr.... inspection! Don't miss that a bit! The Cavaliers were famous for using butch wax to paste down errant hairs on the inspection line. [Of course Larry McCormick always carried an ample supply.]
