What are the most difficult pieces of music

Recommended Posts

What pieces of music performed by corps do you consider to be the most difficult? This can reflect a whole show, certain songs performed, or even just certain sections of the corps(hornline, percussion, pit, mellophones, etc)

Some that stand out to me include,

SCV(and later Cadets) -Young Persons Guide-one of the earlier uses in drum coprs of dual time signatures

Cadets 93-especially the dual time signatures between brass and percussion

Blue Devils 94-so much volume-amazing control

Star of Indiana 91

Blue Devils 00-That pit was absolutely amazingly on fire!!!!!

Cavaliers 00

SCV 99-Philip Glass opener is amazing

These are some of the ones that really pop out to me at this time

I know there are lots of instructors/music majors/judges etc out there. What do you consider to be the most difficult pieces performed?

'91 BD, wow.

'91 Star, of course.

'04 BD

Lots of other corps, but these came to mind first.

I'd also add that a lot of corps have played extremely difficult music badly, so I usually don't think of them in the same category. :)

Star 93 Medea's Dance of Vengeance....

We tried to play a watered down version of it in a band I was in and it didn't go over very well :)

Star of Indiana 1991. still, the most difficult show in drum corps history. They weren't just moving at insane speeds, but really blowing and playing some serious licks, while doing it.

I agree completely. You could also definitely nominate Star of Indiana 1990. 1985 Phantom Regiment should be up there too. Musically, it was every bit as difficult as anything ever done. Don't remember it visually, but musically it was really something.
