raphael18
Cadets 1997 - heck of a show - that is a lot of notes
84BDsop
The mere ramming of notes...while highly impressive and freakishly difficult to play cleanly -- does not in and of itself meet the most difficult music tag...there must be more than just a black page. I'd throw out any of the Don Ellis pieces done by 27th, Madison, or BD...I don;t even think Ellis KNEW how to write a 4/4 bar! In fact...I'll say 1993 BD was probably the most difficult music to play....'cause it was ALL Ellis. Now selling the show to the crowd???? 1993 Star, hands down! StarVoyager
LOL everyone else has covered most of the shows I would have said already. Good to know that great minds think alike!!!!! :D Let me add just a couple others for right now. BD '97 and Cadets '98.
ravedodger
I can't remember who did it off hand, but I think one of the toughest was Ruslan & Ludmila. #### that was fast. I'm thinking 83 Madison or Xmen. Edited July 16, 2005 by ravedodger
ravedodger
Just checked Corpsreps. It was 83 AND 84 Xmen.
smj02
Many types of difficulty: Technically difficult: Star '91, Cadets '97 Most exposed: Star '93 Rhythmically difficult: BD '93 (Great Divide is in 13/8! Other corps have done Strawberry Soup, but not with this demanding a book from beginning to end!) Just plain hard: SCV '01 (lots of notes, exposure, tricky intervals, etc.) Also, Cadets '83 was musically wayyyyy ahead of its time. The visual seems to get all the attention, but that was one tough, exposed book for that time period!

victorcoly
This thread brings to light some other interesting questions: 1). How about music played on old piston/rotor horns? Or old snares and MARCHING tympani?? 2). Two valve bugles, and marching mallets? Given that scenario..... here's my list: --1978 Bridgemen "Sabre Dance" --1975 Scouts "McArthur Park" --1980 Madison Scouts drum solo--NICE mallet line!!!! --1980 27th Lancers -- entire show --1981 Freelancers entire show(Focused intonation on crappy horns) --1985 Garfield Jeremiah Symphony b**bs
