Jeff Ream
Or how about 2003 Renegades when we had a corps member cross a boundary by, like, a single step and it cost us TWO places???Gotta love those penalties! well, we always said you guys crossed the line :P
Fred Steiner Jr.
What year? and what the heck happened there???????? I can think of at least one that needs to be mentioned here... How come DCA didn't penalize the cops for coming on the retreat field and breaking ranks in order to remove a person in cuffs?NanciD Historical Drum Corps Publications: http://historical-drum-corps-publications.blogspot.com/ Diceman Radio: 24/7 Old Time Drum Corps Dialup: http://www.live365.com/stations/diceman719 Broadband: http://www.live365.com/stations/diceman719h
Mick Krackin'
How about 1990 Cumberland, MD (I believe it was 1990) The guy who screwed up the Start Spangled Banner worse than anyone in history. Now that was funny. "AND THE BOMBS IN THE NIGHT, WHERE THE RAMPARTS TOOK FLIGHT AND THE ROCKETS WE HAILED, AND THE BOMBS IN THE NIGHT!!!!!!" I still LMAO when I think of that story. The best part was watching the USMC D&B Corps members trying not to laugh while standing at attention near the snack bar.
K2SMA
Yes, Rocky Horror... I was just getting ready for my solo...Known for being a bit on the "intense" side... I threw my horn about 20 yards when I realized what was happening. When we got under the back side, I was still moaning and groaning (cleaned that up for DCP) - I think (I know) pounding my head against a concrete pole when the chief judge in question - the late great John Collum, tapped me on the shoulder, handed me my horn and said... "Tom, it ain't worth it... it's only drum corps" for the record... it was Bruni's call to pull us - not Alan's... He told me later we were getting ticked off the sheets and he said they were nailing us so bad it was a "show of mercy" to stop us - he said we HAD to be better on the restart... he was of course, right... Tom, I had hoped you would drop in with "the rest of the story". I'm still drying out my socks from that weekend. SMA (Imagine me being called a "rookie"!) K2SMA
Someone mentioned a contest in Hershey where a judge crashed into the Rochester Crusaders' chimes. I believe the year was 1977 and the judge was none other than Pepe Notaro. Yes, it is on the recording and I was the P.A. announcer (back in DCA's pre-Fran Haring era!)... Spandy
In my rookie year (2004) we were playing at a show in Stillwater, MN, and It was pouring rain outside. Chops took the field first; by some fluke I managed to stay standing for the whole show while several of our vets took falls in the mud (I still don't know how I pulled that off). One of our guard lost his soaking wet pants to the forces of gravity after doing a flip... After our show the judges declared the field to hazardous to march, and the rest of the corps played from standstill arcs. <_<
TomPeashey
Hey SMA... just figured out who you are... how goes it buddy? Which "rest of the story" would you like to here? You know me, I have books full of them... Say hello to everyone in Nashville - especially Bunny
