MikeD
there's so much music that a corps could use as a ballad...ahh... October (Whitacre) An American Elegy (Ticheli) Symphonic Metamorphosis: mvmt 3 (Hindemith) I'll come up with more in a moment. maybe. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Berstein's "Chichester Psalms" as a show...the second movemwent, "Adonai", is a wonderful ballad. MikeD
I could go for a choral work.... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> For a ballad-style choral work...lots of material in the Faure' "Requiem". Another piece...not a choral work though...concert band...I arranged this for our band show this year..."Whatsoever Things" by Mark Camphouse. It's based on "St Anthony's Chorale"...written for Northwestern U...according to the score it's part of the school's song. Mike
Quinny
Ok I know this is going to sound stupid.. but their is a Christmas Song called "Mary Did You Know?" that would make for a beautiful ballad IMHO

ChicagoFan
Another piece...not a choral work though...concert band...I arranged this for our band show this year..."Whatsoever Things" by Mark Camphouse. It's based on "St Anthony's Chorale"...written for Northwestern U...according to the score it's part of the school's song. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> As a Northwestern alum I'll coroborrate and elaborate: our alma mater is, indeed, based on the St. Anthony chorale tune, long thought to be by Haydn, but now known as an Austrian folk melody. It's the same tune that Brahms used so effectively as the closing theme of his Academic Festival Overture. ...alma mater praise be thine, may thy name forever shine. Hail to purple, hail to white. Hail to thee Northwestern. Go Cats!! Edited September 14, 2005 by ChicagoFan
BMBob
One more Camphouse suggestion - for a slightly darker show, Watchman, Tell Us of the Night.
