Blue Devils:

Favorite: 1988 - A non stop display of emotion from start to finish. A title worthy show with a most underrated visual program

least favorite: 2005, by far. A concept that never made it into the stands, mised opportunities, loose ends, not enough music, and too much talking. Might have looked good on paper but sunk like a rock on the field.

This will pretty much only cover back to 1995, since that's what I'm most familiar with. While it makes sense to name a favorite, I feel kind of silly saying that some show is worse than another that I haven't even seen.

The Cavaliers

Favorite: 2002 - a seamless masterpiece

Least: 1996 - not a bad show, but my least favorite music since 1995

The Cadets

Favorite: 2000 - just beats out 2005 and 2001

Least: 2002 - too trite and too much cheese for my taste

Blue Devils

Favorite: 1999 - though 2000 and 2004 are close

Least: 2002 - had some moments, but not enough

Santa Clara Vanguard

Favorite: 2000 - just beats out 1995, 1999, 2001 and 2003

Least: 1996 - least interesting musically, though I wasn't a fan of 2004 either

Madison Scouts

Favorite: 1995 - one of the great shows ever, runners-up 1999, 2003

Least: 1998 - Remembrance was great, the rest was not

Bluecoats

Favorite: 2003 and 2005 - I just have to tie them

Least: none yet, but not familiar enough with 96-99

Blue Knights

Favorite: 2003 - narrowly edges 1999, two really fun shows

Least: 2001 - just not in character with the Blue Knights that I love

Phantom Regiment

Favorite: 1996 - killer first two sections!

Least: 1999 - just never got into it on the CD or the DVD

Carolina Crown

Favorite: 2004 - so much fun

Least: 2002 - heh...

Boston Crusaders

Favorite: 2003 - I'm digging the sequel to 2000's Red, but 2001 was fun too

Least: 2002, 2004 - I had to tie the two Tarpon-esque shows.

Crossmne

Favorite: 2002 - intense!

Least: 2003 - I just felt let down by this show, especially Blue Rondo

Glassmen

Favorite: 2001 - beats out good shows in 1995, 1999, 2002 and certainly 2005

Least: 2003 - just didn't come together in the way that their better shows have

Forget all the props on the field. Clear your mind of them. In fact, you can close your eyes during the show if you want. Listen the music with no prejudice.

If you can do that, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. SCV 1995 is some of my favorite stuff, especially those first three sections of the show. :)

I'll bite on this--but I feel a lock is coming because it may get ugly....

I'm going to talk about Spirit and Suncoast Sound, because I was just thinking about this the other day.

Favorite Spirit....1986....it was FUN!! Just straight fun to listen to that music. I loved the opener. And "Sweet Georgia Brown" was a great montage of styles bringing across the themes. Very cool. Would never do well nowadays, but in 1986, it was great.

:blush::angry::angry:

Spirit that year was so so GOOD !!!

Well......I have posted a bunch of times out here that my favorite drum corps year (To date....doubt it will change) was 1986. I just loved all of the variety and excitment of the music.

PS

Ryan....I love your comment about Fran H....he is the "Man"

Is there anyway that I can get an offical VK red baseball hat......I could kick myself for not buying one years ago :(

I've reopened this thread, with all the junk posts pulled out.

This thread will be on an extremely short leash from here on out. Any funny business whatsoever, and I'll close it.
