MaxwellNotes
I knew about Bill Tyrell -- in fact I'd talked to him just a few days before he died.. I wasn't aware that Eric Knutson had died. When did that happen? Both Bill and Eric were good friends of mine and took their own lives. Very sad, and so young. Eric took his own life in the late 90s

deftguy
deftguy, this is for you:Steve Brubaker :( Uncle Z, Thanks for this. I cannot think of a single person aside from my family members who has made a greater impact on my life than Steve. He was my instructor in high school, for the Cav's, made me a good rifle and flag, a good instructor, and taught me from a early age to go out on the field and kick ###. If I see him in heaven, I will profoundly thank him for contributing to making me the person that I am today.
ScribeToo
Both Bill and Eric were good friends of mine and took their own lives. Very sad, and so young. Eric took his own life in the late 90s :( My best friend marched with them both and I met them both independently of him.. It was one of those "small world" things.. Bill I met by chance at Disneyland when he was in the Toy Soldiers and Eric I met (years before I even met Patrick) when he was working with Arizona Sun. Bill's actions were a complete shock and still remain a complete mystery to me.. Eric.. well.. shock is a word that doesn't seem to cover it. I had NO idea.. what a sad, sad loss of some very talented and tragically TOO YOUNG men.. thanks for the info, Stef
drumcorpsmama
A good friend of mine from my jr corps days. She died of ovarian cancer. Another member to drugs. In fact, I say we give some thought to all of our fellow sisters and brothers who have died. WE are one big happy family. Only the good die young a phrase from songs by Billy Joel and Dion. MikeD
Richie Chirichella...Garfield's DM 69-71. Playing football after the 71 season against the Muchachos (as we did a lot) he broke his leg. After being on crutches a few weeks, he threw a blood clot to his heart and died instantly. He was a senior at Montclair State College majoring in, I think, Math Ed. Mr. Gander, we miss you.I'd like to add Brian and Paul Barr to the list RIP Mr. Gander??? I think he would have laughed at that one. Ken was the reason I marched with Oakland Crusaders... and I got stuck beside his brother Dale for 2 years. Funny story... I saw him a year before he left us at the DB show. I said hello to some friends who were standing with him and his wife.... he looked at me and said that he should know me... I replied hello Ken... then he gave me a big hug... it was years since he seen me last. Another loss comes to mind... Jim Mooney drummer Royalaires guys, when they say wear a bike helmet and you say no way... think of Jim. I wish he did.
