Favourite two shows from a corps...

Recommended Posts

I thought about this after posting in another thread....we usually have trouble selecting only one favourite show from any given corps because some of us have several favourites. So...list your favourite two years from any corps you want to mention...

Here are mine:

Bluecoats: I love the 1987 and 1988 shows. I know that they've had far more successful shows recently, but...I really like those two years.

Blue Devils: I love the 1986 and 1988 shows. 1988 is a fantastic musical show, and 1986 is the complete package.

Blue Knights: 1991 is pretty sweet, their first year in Finals. 1992 had some hot color guard babes, and a pretty cool show too.

Cavaliers: 2000 and 2004. Great shows. Not as big a fan of 2002...I find it a little overrated to be honest. I liked 2000 better. Fantastic visual show.

Crossmen: 1991 is my all-time favourite Xmen show. 1992 is pretty close.

Glassmen: 1998 and 2000.

Freelancers: 1991 and 1989 in that order.

Madison Scouts: 1988 and 1991 do it for me every time.

Phantom Regiment: Dang, this is tough. To select only two shows from so many of my favourites....I'd have to go with 1989 and 1993.

Santa Clara Vanguard: 1987 is fantastic. But so is 1998, which is my favourite SCV show ever.

Sky Ryders: 1986 and 1988.

Spirit of Atlanta: 1987 is a dang sweet show. And I really enjoyed 2003 as well.

Star of Indiana: 1990 hands down. 1993 a close second.

Velvet Knights: 1988 and 1990 were side-splittingly funny.

What be yours?

I started making list, but except for a few obvious choices, it was too tough to narrow it down to just two!

Yay !! Leave it to the "tzar" to inject some fun back in the forums:

Blue Devils: When doing my favorite shows of all time, no matter how I try and score it the same three shows tie for the top spot, since they are inseperable to me, I will include them here as my favorite two(three) Blue Devils shows: 1982, 1988, 1994. From color, to passion, to precision, to showmanship, these three shows had it all, in droves.

Madison Scouts: 1981, 1992. To watch a Scouts rifle line is to really witness something special, early eighties Scouts colorguard is almost untouchable. To see the 92 guard , well, you have to see this underrated and often overlooked show, multiple juaw dropping moments everywhere, and awesome guard uniforms.

Phantom Regiment: 1979, 1991. 79 PR and the "scrubbing bubles" is why I fell in love with drum corp sin the first place, that awesome brass, that precision marching. It still hold its own today. 1991 was packed with passion and color, from the opening dtrains of "Nessun Dorma" and the guard so elegantly dressed to the fire and frenzy of the "bachnalle" , not to mention PR's "Skewed heart visual" Plus I loved Deb Tully.

Cadets/Garfield/Cadets of Bergen county: 1984, 1998. West side stroy as never presented before/ Breathatking drill, unique music charts, an integrated Twiggs guard. A show that was in a league of its owna nd on the forefront of groundbreaking drum corps. 1998 was larger than life, in a class of its own, TO this day, I hold their drill of 98 as one of the best ever and the guard that year pulled out all the stops to show us the best of what Cadets had to offer.

SCV: 1987, 1989. Full out spectacle with drama, plotlines, magig, sophistication and class. The guard of 87 (where I almost marched) was non stop, in your face and totally competent. The GE of this show was breathtaking. 1989 to "Phantom " one step further by streamlining the whole production and giving it a sleek, fast paced feel. Gone were the props replaced by subtle reminders in the drill and guard, gone was the spectacle, replaced by intrigue and passion. The guard using the black lace in "somehow here again" simply awesome.......tear invoking. And a finale to top all finales........

Just some for now.

Bluecoats: 2002 - hands down favorite and perhaps the best designed bottom-six show. I also liked 1990 and 2004 a lot also, with 2004 edging out.

Blue Devils: 1993 - visually dirty, but such entertaining tunes. 1988 and 1994 were also fantastic. 1994 was probably the most recent show of theirs that I truly liked.

Blue Knights: I enjoyed the Trittico shows of 1994 and 1999. I've also enjoyed their shows the last couple years. It took waaaay too long for Some Enchanted Evening to make it to the field.

Cadets: 1993 and 1997.

Cavaliers: 2001 rocked my face off - that drill amazed me (and it's pretty mundane relative to what they're doing now). I miss the light-hearted shows from 1989 to 1991 these days, so I'll put 1990 up there.

Colts: 1993 - what a fun show. 1999 was also a good 'un. (incidently, Chuck's last year arranging - coincidence?)

Crossmen: 1992 and 1990. I think 1990 is underrated - fun closer.

Glassmen: 1999 and 2001 - how were these esoteric?

Madison: 1997. Such a great choice of tunes to portray the pirate theme while still staying "Madison" (unlike, say, 2000)

Phantom: Easily 1993 - many of my favorite shows come from 1993, the first year I saw the PBS broadcast. This show created a Phantom Phan for life in August 1993... :). In a distant second, many of their other shows - I'll go with 1997. I've been listening to the 1997 show a LOT lately, and I just love the brass arranging.

Santa Clara: 1997 - my favorite drill up until about 2001. Such a rockin show. Next is probably 2002 - a SUPER underrated show. Copland's Organ Symphony rocked the house.

Star of Indiana: 1990 and 1991.

This is always fun to do once a summer. If I did this again in an hour, I'd probably have different answers...
