JrzyInVA
That's is good question for a newbie parent...Don't be concerned with the fact that your corps goes a few days without a show. If you'll check the schedules of the other corps you will find that at some point almost all of them will have a period where they go a few days without a show. The corps is not "taking time off". Rehearsals are still going on and changes are being made with a goal of make the show better. At some point, the corps will be rewarded for this work with a bump in the score. When all is said and done I think you will indeed find the XMen being right there with Spirit and Colts. As for the kids looking at the stats...the stats mean NOTHING in early July and the so-called rankings change every night. I'm sure the kids are curious where they stand, but I also know that their staff (as do all good staffs) is not focused on scores at this point in the season. There are going to be some very good corps not in finals this year. Your child is getting the experience of a lifetime getting to perform with a Div 1 drum corps. As a parent...ENJOY! Thanks for the feedback. I didn't mean to imply that this week was down time -- just the opposite, I know they're working hard to clean the show. I continue to be amazed at the motivation of these young ladies and gentlemen from the start of Spring Training to do their best, to build on last year, and make it to the finals. I just hoping that movitvation hasn't wained. (I'll see first hand when I join up with the Corps in OK and TX next week). I wish I was getting this experience when I was my son's age. However, I can't carry a tune in a washtub! :P My son certainly didn't inherit his music genes from me! prodigal bari
You got me on the 6 yr old. That's a delicate explanation. Except for explaining the modern slang, I hope the 65yr old get the idea and understands ^0^ . Serious question: Did a 6 yr old and/or 65 yr old really ask you about it? Actually, my 6-yo heard it on the radio and asked me what a hump is! :sshh: I told him it had something to do with camels... Both my teenage kids (who were the reason why we were listening to that station...disclaimer..) asked what the camels were doing. Oh, the pain, the pain.... DutchCousin
Also, neither the Blue Stars nor the Capital Regiment have bested the Crossmen in head-to-head competition. When they've met, Crossmen prevailed in score. Also, Crossmen beat Colts once, and Colts beat Crossmen once.I am presuming that the rankings are therefore just raw scores?[/ As I recall, Blue Stars and Crossmen only met once so far and indeed Xmen won but that is one show. They beat Colts by a whole of .15 not a huge margin. The rankings on dci are the average over all the shows this season. Capital Regiment outranks Blue Stars on that list but in all 4 head to head contests Blue Stars beat them 1.7 -3.3 points difference. The shows are all judged so differently that it is really hard to say who ranks where just based on scores. Head to head speaks louder. Just my 2 cents
DrumCorpsMom
...The rankings on dci are the average over all the shows this season. ... Just to be clear, it is not DCI that does the rankings.... they just report the scores. The rankings are compiled by the fans and DCP out of interest. Also, I have never heard of this song that everyone is so upset about. I heard the audio of the show for Crossmen and didn't hear anything that I thought was provocative. Studio Tan
I have never heard of this song that everyone is so upset about. You're so lucky. What you gon' do with all that junk? I'ma get, get, get, get, you drunk, Get you love drunk off my hump. What u gon' do with all that ###? All that ### inside them jeans? I'm a make, make, make, make you scream Make you scream, make you scream. Cos of my hump, my hump, my hump, my hump. My hump, my hump, my hump, my lovely lady lumps. (Check it out) I met a girl down at the disco. She said hey, hey, hey yea let's go. I could be your baby, you can be my honey Let's spend time not money. And mix your milk wit my cocoa puff, Milky, milky cocoa, Mix your milk with my cocoa puff, milky, milky riiiiiiight. They say I'm really sexy, The boys they wanna sex me. They always standing next to me, Always dancing next to me, Tryin' a feel my hump, hump. Lookin' at my lump, lump. You can look but you can't touch it, If you touch it I'ma start some drama, You don't want no drama, No, no drama, no, no, no, no drama So don't pull on my hand boy, You ain't my man, boy, I'm just tryn'a dance boy, And move my hump. My hump, my hump, my hump, my hump, My hump, my hump, my hump, my hump, my hump, my hump. My lovely lady lumps (lumps) My lovely lady lumps (lumps) My lovely lady lumps (lumps) In the back and in the front (lumps) My lovin' got you, She's got me spendin'. (Oh) Spendin' all your money on me and spending time on me. She's got me spendin'. (Oh) Spendin' all your money on me, up on me, on me. What you gon' do with all that junk? All that junk inside that trunk? I'ma get, get, get, get you drunk, Get you love drunk off my hump. What you gon' do with all that ###? All that ### inside them jeans? I'ma make, make, make, make you scream Make you scream, make you scream. What you gon do with all that junk? All that junk inside that trunk? I'ma get, get, get, get you drunk, Get you love drunk off my hump. What you gon' do wit all that breast? All that breast inside that shirt? I'ma make, make, make, make you work Make you work, work, make you work. She's got me spendin'. Spendin all your money on me and spendin' time on me She's got me spendin'. Spendin' all your money on me, up on me, on me. To tie this all into DCI, part of the melody sounds like a "New World Symphony" sample, but I don't think it's a direct sample. Pinwiz
For the record: My Humps = cool drum lick. Plus, it's funny. That's all that matters. (And the fact that if VK did it, everyone would have been fine.)
rut-roh
You're so lucky. That's cute. Now include the lyrics that the Crossmen actually use: My hump, my hump, my hump, my hump, my hump,My hump, my hump, my hump, my lovely little...(static) It amounts to about 4 or 5 seconds, and then they SWITCH THE STATION. Which is the whole point. Edited July 12, 2006 by rut-roh
Studio Tan
I was just trying to familiarize her with the song. Whatever, I can't let myself get worked up over it. The rest of the show is strong. Edited July 12, 2006 by Studio Tan
corpsreps
but they have enough musical talent to do a great show without some 16 or 17-year-old girl going "MY HUMPS! MY HUMPS MY HUMPS MY HUMPS!" FWIW The pit member in question is an age out.
kusankusho
What you gon' do with all that junk? All that junk inside your trunk? I'ma get, get, get, get, you drunk, (snip for the sake of mercy....) Surely destined to be a classic. Leonard Cohen move over......
