Top 5 APDs 1988 - Present

Recommended Posts

My experience with drum corps started in 1988, when Madison won it all with Maleguena. My favorite shows were 1989 Phantom (New World) and 1991's Star (Roman Images).

I kind of fell of the drum corps planet after I went to college, and then after (1992 - 2004) but now I am back big time.

I want to download a few of the best shows (musically) from the years 1988-present. Can my fellow DCPers post their top 5 APD over those years?

Top Five:

1995 Madison Scouts

1993 Star of Indiana

2000 SCV

2002 Cavaliers

1996 Phantom Regiment

I went for variety, and judged them solely on the audio, since that's what you'd be downloading. Next five would be:

2000 Cadets

2000 Blue Devils

1997 Madison Scouts

2004 Cavaliers

1999 Santa Clara Vanguard

93 Star as a choice for an APD? I don't know... so much of the first half of the show needs to be seen to be understood/appreciated. I guess I could say the same for Cavaliers 02 (I'm not saying that Cavies 02 didn't have an entertaining book... just that it really has to be seen... not just listened to).

Anyway, here are my picks:

Blue Devils 1994

Madison Scouts 1995

Phantom Regiment 1993

Cadets 2000

Blue Devils 1993

1990 Star of Indiana

1992 Crossmen

1993 Blue Devils

1996 Phantom Regiment

2001 Cadets

(I would have put Madison 95 in there somewhere, but the recording quality from finals is awful)

My recommendations, trying to give as broad a cross-section as you can get in 5 shows. :)

(edit - sorry, just saw that you were around in '91! :) )

1995 Madison Scouts - El Toro Caliente, Concierto de Aranjuez, La Danza Pasillo, Malaga

1998 Blue Devils - One Hand, One Heart: Romeo and Juliet, West Side Story

1999 Santa Clara Vanguard - Inventions for a New Millennium: The Canyon, Symphony No. 2, Symphony No. 1, Blue Shades

2000 Cadets - We Are the Future: Tapestry of Nations, Prologue, Chaos and Meaning, The Sage of Time, The Promise

2003 Phantom Regiment - Harmonic Journey: Sanctus, Wild Nights, The Lord's Prayer, Ostinato
