It's that time again...

Another one I have is ALL of Borodin's Second Symphony in B Minor. I know Glassmen did parts of it, interwoven with Polovetsian Dances and such, but I'd like to see all of it. And there would be nothing wrong with some Steppes of Central Asia for the ballad or something, I just want to hear distinct and seperate movements of the symphony.

Same with DSCH's Seventh. Phantom did a very good job with it in 2002 IMO, but I love love love the third movement and the first movement, too. How cool would that be:

2007 Phantom Regiment presents:

LENINGRAD

I. Allegretto (the Invasion theme)

II. Adagio (actually the third mvt)

III. Allegro non troppo (from Heroic Sketches)

Glad I scrolled on. "Leningrad" absolutely! Also from Shostakovich: "Execution of Stepen Razin" and "Hamlet". Let the 5th & 10th R.I.P.

I'm also with you on Borodin (my cat really is named Prince Igor). In fact, the entire opera has much more to offer than just the "Dances". "Steppes" doesn't do much for me after the opening segment, but I recall Mandarians doing it justice a few years ago.

And I still say there's a lot of Wagner waiting to be played. If and when they can the clown hats and gimmicks, "Flying Dutchman" is premised on the sailors waiting for a "South Wind". 'nuff said. And you could go deeper into the "Ring" than that great Phantom show.

Of course- the overture to Prince Igor is quite a piece of music too- the reason I made specific reference to the Dances is because thats the big push at the end. And, I agree, Steppes of Central Asia was not explored to the extent I think it could have been in the Glassmen show. The countermelody and such- I think it would have made a fantastic 3-minute ballad.

Heh. No kidding. CorpsVets did some Yoko Kanno in 2002 and 2003, IIRC.

And Blue Stars played "Tank!" in 04. Could have done more with Bebop.

Cowboy Bebop is just begging to be a complete show, why no one has actually done it yet is beyond me.

Opening: Memory

- TANK!

- Elm

- Car 24

- BLUE

- Bad Dog No Biscuits

Songs could be switched with others...a few sequels could be pulled out...this show is a goldmine for great music. Well, maybe not really a goldmine, but still.

I know! I keep waiting for it, but no dice. Almost tricked a high school band director into doing it one year.
