ContraRich77
Bb, G, doesn't matter...........................a good ol' fashioned STOMP is louder than both.......
lobrass7
Some wisdom imparted to the Renegades from Frank Dorritie in 2002: "The ear will perceive clarity for volume." Play in tune with great intonation and you will be loud. Period. Doesn't matter what key your hornline is in.

Jomusichn
True volume is in the undertones and spatial vibrations. Some of the large bore Bb's can sound pretty close to a G horn.

SaraNYC
It's all about the air capacity in your lungs and how much you push through the horn. As a mellophone player that has played on both G and F, I find no resistance on an F mellophone. The G restricted my playing a bit and I'm a fairly loud player to begin with.VIVA LA F's and Bb's!!!! And all about the basics. Breathe. Dah. Attacking and releasing at the same time. The best hornline I've ever played in was a Star Alumni Bb line. Dang. And I'm a G Bugle fanatic. kevingamin
Have we all forgotten the power of the K-50???? No Mellophone since has played so loud If an all age corps started up playing solely on 2-valve King G bugles, I'd be there in a heartbeat. Jeff Gibbens
In all my years of writing, arranging, teaching, coaching, spoon feeding, vein popping, and fund raising, I have come to the conclusion: Jay Pius = LOUD! That's about it.
