No Handicap Parking at LOS

Recommended Posts

I called the DCI office yesterday to inquire about parking at Lucas Oil Stadium. I was informed that there would be NO PARKING at the stadium including NO PARKING for handicapped spectators. I was told "there are plenty of parking garages in Indianapolis, I'm sure you'll find something."

THANKS FOR THE HELP!

I know that handicap parking is available for the Colts games at the stadium. It's available for concerts at the stadium. Does anyone know if it was available for BOA events last fall? If so, why is DCI not allowing it? Yes, I know the corps need some of the parking lot for their vehicles, but come on...if it was provided for BOA...they that had MANY more bands performing than DCI has corps performing.

Since the DCI office was of no help to me, can anyone from DCP help me with suggestions on where handicap parking might be located near the stadium?

Isn't that illegal to not provide handicapped parking? Sorry I can be of no help. Good luck to you.

Only if you're allowing regular parking. If DCI is forbidding all spectator parking at Lucas Oil Stadium, I don't think there's a legal complaint here. It's callous, short-sighted, and a poor PR decision, but probably not illegal.

I believe it's illegal for lots to not have handicap accommodations. I'm sure the LOS parking lot (is there one?) has handicap parking available. It just sounds like DCI is using the parking lot for something else, and it's not open for public parking at all at the DCI competition.

I could be wrong, though.

I think the Stadium as a entity has to allow handicap parking and access to all events.....I would call the stadium and ask about Handicap access for the stadium for the DCI events. I don't know how much "DCI" can control the parking at the I'd imagine that the stadium wants $$$ in parking revenue to go along with the concessions

I mean even the superbowl has handicapp parking......

From DCI.org

All spectator parking for the World Championships events will take place in the parking lots and parking garages in the downtown Indianapolis area and at the downtown Indianapolis hotels. Parking is abundant. There are more than 66,000 parking spaces in Downtown Indianapolis. For more details check out the Downtown Indianapolis Parking Database. There are also surface lots that accommodate oversized vehicles."

They're probably using the parking for the corps.

At Stanford, all of the facility parking was taken up by corps equipment, and the paying crowd was left to find parking wherever available.

Here's Lucas Oil Stadium's online map/info regarding stadium parking: http://www.lucasoilstadium.com/Maps_and_Parking/Parking/

It's looks like parking is kind of limited, maybe? Compared to Qualcomm Stadium here in San Diego (http://www.sandiego.gov/qualcomm/pdf/parkmap.pdf) it looks like there is maybe half of the parking available onsite, or Ohio Stadium at Ohio State (http://www.aboveallohio.com/images/stock/big/ohio_stadium_aerial.jpg) there is a bit more.

Maybe DCI is using all of the parking lot area at Lucas Oil Stadium for drum corps busses, trucks, corps warm-ups, and the Market Place. Even looking at LOS's parking map (which I assume is for Colts game days), it appears there is only a 'Handicap Drop-off/Pick-up' area.

Either way, if you felt that DCI was not helpful I would call Lucas Oil Stadium directly at (317) 262 8600.

Good luck

You've got to be kidding me?! No parking at the stadium? Who the sam-he## came up with this brainless idea. That's it! I'm done! I'm never going back! If they can't even figure out how to park the fans this is the most inept group of DCI nutballs that ever ran the activity!

This just really #####s me off. I can't friggin' believe it!

That's it, I'm done!

Having not been to an event at Lucas Oil yet, maybe it won't be that bad. At Ohio State there's not really any parking near the stadium: you have to either park in one of the garages on campus, campus side streets, or park way off campus and take public transportation. If there are plenty of lots around the Stadium maybe it's not really that big of a deal.
