OldStyleCorps Posted December 14, 2008 Posted December 14, 2008 (edited) This may help those who want DCA to move. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- from DCA PR Director: " DCA President Gil Silva had help from "Rochester Mayor" Bob Duffy and "Monroe County Executive" Maggie Brooks in opening the 2009/2010 DCA Rules Congress at the George Eastman House Museum. Rarely are politicians as drum corps savvy and cooperative as this “cross party” pair. Both spoke about their sincere appreciation for all DCA and drum corps in general have done for the Rochester area and promised their complete cooperation in making the 2009 championship another success story. " --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So I say. In other words. They want it, they got it, and are willing to do what it takes to have it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND Both the Rochester area and DCA do such a Great Job. Edited December 14, 2008 by OldStyleCorps Quote
TomPeashey Posted December 15, 2008 Posted December 15, 2008 Boy are you right there.... and don't read anything into that - come championship bid time (1/15/08) I'm told we may have as many as 8 bids now... Allen Buell is doing a great job already in his new position. but - The Mayor and County Executive are amazing... and one is democrat and one republican... so those out of the area know - these are NOT lightweight politicians... If Maggie Brooks was a democrat instead of a Republican, she would be on the short list to replace Hillary Clinton right now... and Bob Duffy? With the new found Democratic power... don't be surprised if you see that name in high places soon... he'd be my pick for homeland security... imagine the power of being a law and order mayor of a major city and being the former chief of police? Having a long and storied career in law enforcement? and he's fairly young... Bob Duffy has a long career ahead of him... Yet... at 8:45 Saturday morning, they both showed up at the museum - just to welcome us - to a meeting? Like I said, very savvy politicians, but they do let their actions speak for themselves. Quote
KeithHall Posted December 15, 2008 Posted December 15, 2008 Just to add my two cents here... Now as I write this I am visualizing certain DCPers ready to jump on me...but hear me out. Rochester is probably better for all the corps that make up DCA. I am not saying it is the most central place but it makes the ride a few hours less for the mid west corps. The NJ and PA corps have to travel a bit and the west and southern corps? Oh well. Rochester is a drum corps place as evident in the two DCA corps from Rochester and the former junior corps that called Rochester home. What other city and county has had their mayor and county executive show up for a DCA business meeting and say so many positive things. Upstate NY boasts 4 good DCA corps and all within 70 miles of each other. I found Rochester more fun to play at than Buffalo (except the gig at The Pier). Rochester is truly appreciative for what DCA has been bringing to the area and I would rather see the Championship there than anywhere else. This may help those who want DCA to move.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- from DCA PR Director: " DCA President Gil Silva had help from "Rochester Mayor" Bob Duffy and "Monroe County Executive" Maggie Brooks in opening the 2009/2010 DCA Rules Congress at the George Eastman House Museum. KeithHall Posted December 15, 2008 Posted December 15, 2008 Is flying into Buffalo cheaper than flying into Rochester? Quote
paradiddle Posted December 15, 2008 Posted December 15, 2008 Is flying into Buffalo cheaper than flying into Rochester? Keith, I just flew non-stop roundtrip from Tampa TPA to Rochester ROC on AirTran for $159. Quote
Jeff Zehner Posted December 15, 2008 Posted December 15, 2008 (edited) Is flying into Buffalo cheaper than flying into Rochester? Aye, three years running. (but that may depend on airline/departing city and proximity to where your corps stays) Edited December 15, 2008 by Jeff Zehner Quote
CookieMonster Posted December 15, 2008 Posted December 15, 2008 Guys, I think you are all forgetting the most important reason that DCA should stay in Rochester. Quote
