Codpieces all around! Unfortunately, the above from the Renaissance does not allow for the twirling of rifles (to be invented) or flags as they would hit the codpiece which would probably hurt a lot. However, I think the attached design is perfect for sword and flag twirling. You can tell it is pre-drum corps by the feather on the head. The hand on the ground next to the uniform model is from a competitor (sword twirling was a bit dangerous back then).
