  1. When I first learned about "On the Shoulders of Giants," the first thought I had after watching the Cory band on YouTube was that it was amazing that the band didn't spontaneously combust when they finished the piece. I still don't understand how they made it through all those runs in one piece - was this the product of CGI effects? That being said, the fact that Cavie's staff have chosen such a difficult piece speaks volumes about the confidence they have in their members.

  2. If it's BDB perhaps Diablitos Azules?

  3. So far this is what I've gathered from this thread: 1. The quality of the show logo is somehow indicative of the quality of the playing and marching in the show. 2. Talking about athleticism means they are going to "hose" brass parts. 3. This could be really good or really bad. I'm set to wait and see the show until I pass judgement, I definitely won't pass judgement on a show from the LOGO of the show. 15 Minutes of Fame didn't know what it wanted to be. They had so many things going on (all the musical selections) and the "idea" behind that theme was just too esoteric and hard to present. The explanation behind this show makes it sound like they are just giving a name to this to have something for the announcers to say when introducing them, not so much a story or anything like that. Worked for Coats last year.

  4. Saying RCC is "Blue Devils winter program" is like saying Rhythm X is Bluecoats winter program. Neither of those paints an accurate picture and does a disservice to the folks that make each of those programs what they are today.

  5. Hello! Is there a way to get old DCI & DCM, and Division III patches? I'm particularly interested in getting ones from 2001. Thanks in advance for your help!

  6. I totally appreciate what you're saying and I will say that I HOPE not! I think they have learned a bunch from that 15 Minutes of Shame experience. If anything I think this show lends itself to be more conceptionally designed like XtraordinarY from what they've written. I've heard some of the music and they're sounding quite good so far. I've also been a critic of their recent musical arrangements, but this year is a good start. Of course, individual tastes may vary, so I'm just speaking to what I like. I HATED the early season arrangements last year until they started layering and refining; by the end of the season, I felt they were respectable.

  7. Or maybe a very bad proposal for a rule (meaning this definitely should NOT be implemented): if a B/Cadet corps makes finals the previous year, then any member of that corps who hasn't moved on to the "A" corps (or voluntarily to another corps) will be abducted and blindfolded in the middle of the night by a DCI black ops team and forcibly shipped out to fill open spots in other World Class corps. The now-emptied B/Cadet corps will then have to train up a brand new crop of talent, or transfers from other Open Class corps. BTW, I misread "Azuldiablos" as "Azuldi Ablos." (Didn't get parsed correctly in my head.) Maybe "Ablos Azuldi" would be a good winter guard name. :-)

  8. Technically speaking "hosing" a brass part would mean they took a previously written part and watered it down. Since most all those shows were original music they didn't hose anything, those were the original compositions. This means they played the original brass parts without hosing it! :-)

  9. I'm not sure what the California Highway Patrol has to doi with this but, Eric Estrada aside, I was going for suggestive rather than literal. Perhaps BDC could be the Little Caesars.

  10. I think there should be a rule that any second string corps (BDB, SCVC...) who makes finals should have to get a unique name. Even if it is a little derivative, like, I don't know, Azuldiablos.

  12. I... wonder why they folded so soon? Guess you missed the part about having two trucks ... one for equipment and one for beer/ale ... :-)

  13. I agree...now hopefully my upcoming promotion doesn't get in the way of my planning to go to finals.

  14. The more I hear about this show the more I'm VERY excited about it. I've been immersing myself in Shostakovich, primarily Symphony 10. and the Lady MacBeth of the Mtsensk District for a project I'm working on for school, and I've listened to the 10th I don't know how many times over the last few weeks. I've gone form liking Shostakovich because it's good music to absolutely falling in love with his stuff over the last few weeks for its content and emotion. Makes me all the more excited for this show. Emotion wise, I think the music is going to speak for itself. I don't think this is going to be an intentionally dark show, but the music is certainly lending itself to have that kind of tone. Which is awesome. To me it sounds like they're holding back a little prop, narration, ect. wise, just using them to enhance what the music and drill is doing instead of being a big obvious thing. Which is awesome, that's how I like those things used. I'm really excited to see how this show does. I'd totally be up for Cadets #11 this year. I've officially bought my ticket on the hype train. I'm with you Mr. xandandl, I'm anticipating this summer a lot more than last year already.

  15. I had to go pour a scotch to be able to comprehend this post. Mr. Sacktig, my apologies. You can pay Mr. Xandandlefloffer. Ten snares become ten tenors by going into a bass drum on the left and coming out a bass drum on the right. Got it. The rest of that jibberish did nothing except force me to pull out my DVD and rewatch Kansas City. Hope you're happy. I liked that stadium.
