  2. We have existing friends/family or make new friends that we want to expose to the activity. We want them to understand exactly why we like this. It does not always happen. So often the appreciation for the skill/musicianship is lost. Video reactions like this feed into that interest in having people appreciate an activity that we love Courtney reacts the way we want our friends/family to react.

  3. Should I laugh at this, or cry? All this bickering, all this segregation of WC/OC, all this hoarding of revenue for top corps only, etc etc, has been going on for as long as DCI has existed. They created this system of haves and have-nots 50 years ago. As recently as this January, they doubled down on it with even more restrictive rules and policies to keep the have-nots out. But something has changed. Today, some of the haves are facing the prospect of becoming have-nots due to forces beyond their control. Is this DCI-engineered mitosis of the activity really the most important thing to defend right now?

  4. My kid marched in a Division 2 corps for five seasons. The red-headed ######## stepchildren of the drum corps world was driven home to me in 2000. We drove to Westminster, Maryland for the first day of div 2/3 prelims. The grass was practically knee high on the football field. My friend, Big Al, longtime volunteer for DCI, hopped on a riding mower and mowed down that cow pasture as well as he could. That was my reality check and why I began saying that we were the red-headed ######## stepchildren of DCI.

  6. You are correct about this. The rest does not or did it fall by the wayside because of DCI but for changing times in the 70s. It left behind Dino thinking that did not fit nor accommodate the members nor the changing times. There were so many good directors with very big hearts but not very good at management. There was a judging system where some called it exciting but in actuality had no accountability by judges and as much of an opinion as many think today is. You are right though DCI ( office ) is a promotor , a scheduler etc etc. DCI ( which many forget ) is the corps deciding how the activity will be,.

  7. Vanguard '85. It didn't win. It didn't have to. The show was monumental and so Vanguard. To this day one of the most beautiful ballads on the field - Grover's Corners. There are no pyjamas, there are no props. It's just Vanguard.

  9. 2021 will be the 75th year of the Hawthorne Caballeros Drum & Bugle Corps. Our existence and the momentum we have worked so hard to achieve is now threatened by the COVID-19 virus and by the cancellation of the 2020 DCA season. As a DCA corps, we don’t have the enormous expenses like our sister […] View the full article

  10. You certainly are the master of all things obvious let me make this crystal clear I do not feel it should take two years for the trial!!!! Even without the Covid-19 delay tactic after another six months is plenty of time to organize the defense (if one exist)

  11. There are normally 5 parades in Baltimore: Dundalk (good thing it was flat, mainly), Towson (Up the hill, make a right, then down the hill), Arbutus (never did it), Catonsville (Pitch Blacktop with the sun at your 4 O'clock!), and Bel Air (never did it). Add in Havre De Grace (That wait is lengthy at the staging areas) and it's an interesting time around the area. I slightly miss them, but I also don't miss them from my days marching.

  12. It is with a heavy heart that I inform the drum corps community of the recent passing of former Racine Kiltie Senior Corps Director and soprano soloist Ed Bergles. Ed succumbed to a short battle with bone cancer on Tuesday June 30. He was 62. Ed was the Kiltie corps director from 1996-2000 and played a huge role in the success of the corps during this period. Under Ed's leadership the corps enjoyed competitive success that was unmatched in the Kilties Senior corps history. Details of the funeral services for Ed will be posted when they become available. That great alumni drum corps in the sky now has the right player to hit the high note at the end of Auld Lang Syne. RIP Ed.
