  1. seems like hardimon makes the scv recordings from 81-85 or so. The "what a manuver" from cadets started in 91 or 92 if im not mistaken. The 93 line was said by 2 Railmen in the ctowd one of which marched cadets in 94 and the other marched cymbals for scouts in 95-97. They would listen to the 92 recording to try to get the accent down while on tour with railmen it was pretty funny. Gotta throw this one in -----91 scouts before Funny jim Gameral from railmen yells my last name very loud loud enough i could here it from the field. funny at the time. Nice to know i made the CDs in some way.
  2. one of my fav shows of all time just listened to it last week. the opener is sooo beautiful, however i grit my teeth everytime i here that snare roll towards the end!!!!
  3. i would have matt gregg, kent eversmeyer, barbara mullroney in mid voice lee hanson on tenors with scott pearson lee beddis, mike mcintosh, scot johnson, the guy from x men from the 80s, the dude from 85 bd tujuan hawkins, rich viano on snare owens, metzger the 89 bd guy on soprano, 84 madison cymbals with all of scv cymbals. ramthun bros on bari with clay wacholz wow where to end oh ya bobby hullet and dan verhousen as dm's
  4. wow when I read the BOD e-mail this morning i was shocked to see that Span-yo was named to this extradinary position. I love the choice, love the man, love his energy. WOW!!!!!! I have known Jeff since 90 and will always consider him a friend. i will never forget in 90 that he was almost cut(ya i know its hard to believe) even he will admit that then in 91 when we had 2nd yrs in the snare line he and RJ stepped up to be the leaders. winter of 90 jeff kicked his own butt and changed his image from a timid almost scared player to the agressive player and leader he is now. He turned the image of the line around in 91 with help from others and led them to very succesful yrs in the mid 90's. It is a honor to call Jeff my friend and the executive director of the Madison Scouts
  5. first of all, very taken aback by the OP. Why?? Because the MSARP got me interested in drum corps for the 1st time in 5 yrs. I am still to this day anti-DCI they are all about money, not about any corps except top 8, D II/III are almost non-existent compared to the 80s. (ya I know stuff is expensive now adays but so are drum corps tickets.) Unreal that DCI charges 125.00 for finals tics. but that is another subject. I showed no interest until i moved home from Louisiana in June. If i was in omaha over the winter i would have been a proud member of the MSARP. But i couldnt do it!!! i will never go to another finals week show again and havent since 93 but I went to Madison on Tuesday and had the best 4 days in my drum corps career besides 88 finals week. Why?? Because i saw people I may never see again, saw a show i will never see again and it was a blur at night. If you were a scout (past or present) it was a must go to event. Talk to Dan Verhousen or Brian Collicott and ask them why they did MSARP? Talk to all who did it and you will see that they did it to experience the times they had in the past. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that its called LIFE. i am now on the MS alumni site and wasnt since 92. I'm sure there are others who got there interest aroused and signed up too so that in and of itself will help put money into the corps. That is irrmeasurable!!!
  6. From Wed at 1pm when I arrived at practice as a spectator to my drive home it was one of the best weekends I have ever had related to drum corps. ( prob. 2nd behind 88 finals week) The show on Wed was great singing never walk was awesome on wed., thurs was cool checked out some d lines, got some scouts and alumni corps rehearsal in. friday was awesome cause it was my 1st real drum corps show since 93 finals. singing never walk outside the stadium was awesome. Saturdays party was long and i should have left at midnite. The only negative was that the video played over and over and over we made a joke out of it at the end but if you were a scout then this was a shouldnt miss weekend. thank you to scott stewart and all the staff and members for making this happen.
  7. WOW 81 scouts This was the year that my family went to 5 shows in 4 days. The 2 drum beautys in the cities then whitewater then rockford or madison cant remember all in 1 long weekend. Wow then scouts win whitewater it was awesome and I was 11 yrs old and still remember it like it was yesterday. Then off to montreal and I remember the rehearsals with X men in montreal. Ollie mae Banks walkin through the stands begging for money so the corps could pay for the housing. I was so young I dont remember being disappointed when scouts lost . God what a year that was, we followed scouts all around it was awesome.
  8. went to the omaha show tonite and here is my once a year opinion. Scouts show is extremely difficult drill wise, slightly entertaining, dont care for the music, dig the opening with the bass line starting the show. (colin gets his way). LOVE the uniforms!!! totally cool!! the guard unis are horrific and ruins the show. This could be a factor in the low guard scores??!! just my opinion. When the show gets clean they will be competitive come finals. Bluecoats were awesome!!!! never cared for them since 90 when they beat us for the 1st time and rubbed it in our faces, This show is entertaining, fairly clean for the season so far and the d- line rocks. It was the most entertaing show of the night. Cavies.... never liked them either(rivalry stuff i guess) This show was great , my 1st impression was the guard unis were awful but the whole robot thing was great and the guard was clean and entertaining. so that ruined my 1st impression!! The d-line is stock... always great. paid attention to the d-line only during the encore and without a doubt they are great. A excellent show and should compete for 1st place in mad town. The scoring spreads were accurate in my opinion. Cavies are leaps and bounds better than scouts and scores reflect it
  9. i really would like to get a copy of the "tommy" show it is one of my favorites. I lost my 90 cds 2 years ago. Its been 2 yrs since I heard it. Also missing my copy of disc 1 from 1989 and that has "new world" on it. i'll pay anyone please help
  10. 1984 85 are in my opinion the best yrs of drum corps. 84 is the year that started my drum corps career so that will always be special. I remember watching cadets at semis and saying to a friend "why is garfield split up on the field" duh west side story. Then watching it at finals going WOW!!!! f' in cool. Then pr and scv and obviously lafiesta. 85 was my fav cause of scv and Madison and Cadets again SCV's show was awesome. Perfect opener and a perfect closer. Gorgeous show!!!
  11. Sorry not buying that high of a score. How can anything be that closee to perfection with all those performers. 128 people performing that close to perfection is impossible folks!!!! I can see Olympic gold medalists scoring perfect 10's in events because it is one person, but not 128 people. Something tells me the score was this high to WOW future ESPN broadcasts and such ps just a thought
  12. 1992 bettendorf ia. The Scouts staff decides to redo the ending from the middle to the end. We have ashow that afternoon and they spring this change. We fell apart sooooooo bad the center snare was just playing a little diddie for a solo during a co. front. Absolutely embarassing and hilarious at the same time. Next day was my age out home show in stillwater so we got it right for that show.
  13. the 1st one that comes to mind is 85 garfield " may your garden grow" an absolutely tremendous song.
  14. The bathrooms on the Madison buses in the '70's didn't work so the "botttle method" for urine storage occasionally had to be used. In '78 (?'79) the horn bus took some sharp turns in the Colorodo Rockies and a glass orange juice container full of urine (maybe one gallon) came crashing down on one poor guy's head. He was drenched, his head was gashed open and it wasn't even his own bottle! True story, happened one seat in front off me. to add to this story, when i marched Scouts we had different rookies have jobs on the bus. We called them boys ie beverage boy had coolers of pop, garabage boy threw away garbage if you had some and you guessed it..... #### boy bought you the milk carton to #### in!!!! on Scouts busses in the 70's and 80's, the drum bus had a bar in their restroom. so guys would drink all night and just get bombed. also heard a story from the early 80's, 80 81 82 dont know which, they were driving home from a show in northern wis appleton maybe, anyway the corps got drunk at a local tavern and pulled over to pee, dont know if its true but I heard one of the buses wizzed on a electric fence. Again, that one may be myth!!!
  15. its a fire truck from the station behind the basketball fieldhouse. I remember sitting in the end zone stands saying " that'll make the album"
  16. this may sound cheezy........ the Polar Express Soundtrack is dynamite. Don't believe me take a listen sometime
  17. when i saw this post, the 1st show that came to mind was 95 Scouts. How can anyone say that this show isnt non-stop energy is beyond me. about 2 mos. ago, I showed the tape to my mom. We watched 88 Scouts first and then 95 Scouts. And I quote "that was better than you guys" WOW thanks mom, please throw away my ring!!! Then ya think about it and 86 BD was #### good. I just discovered 2000 Cadets over the past weekend and the solo section is the coolest thing i've ever seen on a field before. But man, how Scouts didn't win in 95 is beyond me. Oh ya thats right I didnt see any other shows from that year cause I'm old.
  18. Someone dropped the question of "what about the 7-14 place corps?" When I was in Scouts, it seemed as though the 87,89-92 were the same design concepts. Stale shows with some high peaks. Here is my example, good opener slow ballad, rockin middle tune, crumby closer. 90-92 come to mind. in my opinion, that boils down to creativity amongest staff. Staff turnover is sometimes good, scouts philosophy was to have the same staff yr in and yr out. Those ideas became stale. . look at Cadets, look at "new Madison". The shows have new and fresh ideas. Same thing with star. new ideas year in and yr out. 92 and 93 are vastly different shows. Both highly effective!!! 92 star was better than Cavies in my opinion. Chester was brilliant. i'm so glad Sal is with scouts. I thought the previous director, name escapes me, was going to bury them. fresh ideas are key in my opinion.
  19. My first impression was that it was 85 and 87 scouts in a blender. rev it up and see what comes out!!! i know it sounds mean but I also saw them early on. A& P wasn't good in 87 and it is still too boring.

  21. This is my review of 1988. It started at 87 banquet parade when we realized that the battery was going to be the same people. Forward ahead to the 1st may camp. We did a complete runthrough before memorial day. Only time it happened during my marching yrs. Memoriial day camp was good with a huge party on memorial day night at the dorms. Final rehearsal at Camp Randall, move your sh$$ in and party. Good times!!!! I then remember whitewater, 1st or 2nd weekend. i was in half uni when i walked by B coats bassline and the top bass for them raps with me about how he is dying to here malaguena. I was like ya but there is more to it!!! Tom and I met in 87 at Star's tryouts, we both failed miserably but we ended up where we wanted so it was all good. I think we won but I dont rememeber. Next we stayed at Minnonk Illinois. I still cringe when I see that city. Had rough practice fields, plenty of cornfields for the d-line to march around and completely undrinkable water. I remember the Quik trip was drained of all the Gatorade because we had bought it all. Absolutly the worst h2o ever couldnt even shower as you smelt worse after than you did before. Also the Normal show was unforgettable as the judges tied us with PR. Of course it was cool as we played for each other and their DM was classy enough to wish us good luck over the PA. Then i rememeber packing for Europe till 4 in the morning and then heading to o hare by 7a. Long ### flight and Johnny Banks was completely hammered Hillarious. Short and sweet europe story. Germany---rain daily and the climate was hot then cold, take the shirt off, put it back on repeat!!!! We did a runthrough and I slipped on the bass drum turn at the end of Malaguena and it looked like a yard sale with my glasses and set book and harness within a 15 foot radius. Mean while the rest of the corps is 20 yds away and I look like an idiot standin by my self. Hey come on it had just rained and we have all been there. Holland--- we stay with families kind of cool. Huge crowds and Steve Weekes missed the boat to England. Pretty funny. MikeByrnes quoted " i havent been on a boat in Weekes" all frikin season England---Very cool most memorable day was 4th of July in Hard Rock cafe. All americans celebrating. Pretty cool stuff. If this is boring then I wont continue. if you want more i got more!!!!
  22. OK reveal yourself Gellio!!!!! We marched together and I am stumped.
