  1. I am not sure about all corps but within probably the entire top 12, leads are playing up to or over high F in the show, 2nds are playing up to or over high C. When I marched we were still on G horns so they were a little bit different notes but playing 2nd sop for 6 years I had at least a high C in the show every year and 1st sops had several high F in the show. So you not only have to have those notes within your range but also be able to have them for 6-8 hours a day.
  2. As a Regiment alum, I think it is self explanatory why I like '08 better.
  3. It was a mix of all of the horns in that front line not just Euphs. I only remember them doing that on the day of finals and I think there was a little bit of a loss of brass power in the run thru when they first did that move. That was definitely a fun show to perform on Finals night. There were a lot of things that were done only on the last night that year. The staff kinda gave us some ideas without saying specifically saying what to do. They said as long as we could get back to our helmets in time after the show they didnt care how far they went before the last wedge. They wouldn't mind if the t-shirts under our jumpsuits were a little ragged and the jumpsuits unzipped. We were given a bit of free reign for Finals.
  4. I know this is a little off topic but this thread reminded me. I would like to commend Cavaliers for what they did at finale last night. Prior to exiting the field after finale they formed a single file line and trooped in front of then passed beside Regiment shaking hands and congratulating the new Champions. From what what I remember, I was in a little bitof a daze, they were the only corps to make such a gesture. Very classy move by the Green Team from Rosemont!
  5. Yes, both Jeff Prosperie and JJ Piptone marched PR. Jeff marched PR 87-88 after marching in Star 86. JJ marched PR in 90 then went to BD in 91. Both have also worked with PR on an instructional level as well. Jeff was percussion caption head 90-92 then was percussion arranger 93-94. I am not sure of the years JJ worked with the corps but I know he was teaching in 95. But, as many have already said, both are very well respected judges and have never had any numbers questioned at any point in this season or any other. Both have worked with very highly respected arrangers/caption heads during there marching years as well as during there education. Any attempt to say that there was bias in the judging at finals needs only to review the numbers in Qtrs and Semis to see that they were in exact line with the 4 judges that posted scores for the two shows earlier in the week.
  6. When Regiment won percussion in '06, the two percussion judges at finals were Jeff & JJ (who both marched Regiment). Also, I believe that Regiments percussion score from Allentown was about a 1/4 point higher than their closest competition combined from both nights.
  7. I still don't understand why everyone keeps talking about black uniforms on Regiment. There is zero chance of them being in black uniforms for the foreseeable future. I was on the BOD when the change back to white was decided and the black was viewed as a mistake at that time and 80% of the Board is still the same people. I would bet on white uniforms for at least another 10 years. White provides a blank palate that they can do so many things with that black does not allow.
  8. 11 years on G bugles. The first 10 on two valves, the last on three valve.
  9. When they see your car pull in, they will come up to you and remind you that the rehearsals are closed and ask you to leave. If they are rehearsing in a stadium, they very well may lock the gates of the stadium so that no one can approach. It is also not uncommon for corps to stay at one school and travel to a remote rehearsal site that very few people even within the support staff on tour with them at the time know the location of. In '89, we traveled to a set of soccer fields 30 minutes away from the school we were staying at and had morning and afternoon rehearsals there everyday of finals week. Only the drivers and corps director knewn where it was and how to get there.
  10. There is no such thing as an overabundance of instructional staff. Volunteers, however, are frequently limited to a set number for finals week. Each corps only gets a certain number of "bracelets" for each show during finals weeks so even if a corps were to overstaff themselves, not all would be able to get in without a ticket.
  11. Is anyone going to the theater in either Lombard or Bloomingdale, IL? I would prefer to be there with another Regiment phan rather than alone.
  12. Having been on the field the first year that the top 12 had to do quarters, I can tell you that it is beneficial to the corps. It allows the members another chance to learn the stadium. They get to learn the nuances which allows them to give a better performance at Finals. You are much more comfortable doing a show in a stadium for the third time than you are the second time. It also allows the staff to get an additional viewing in the large venue. They can then work on the parts of the show that are not coming across as well. Yes, there are probably financial rewards for DCI but there are allows advantages for the corps themselves as well.
  13. Now we have the answer. So everyone make sure you do the "yells" when you see Regiment live. I know I will be yelling at the computer over the next few weekends.
  14. My sister will kill me for this response. For Regiment SCV is in the rear view mirror. Objects in mirror seem close than they appear.
  15. Still photos are fine but please do not take a video camera. If you take a video camera you might get your veins opened.
  16. Bob Smith never wrote the drill. He was caption head on and off for a while in the early 00's. Prior to Jamey Thompson was Johnny Sanchez for I believe two years. I can't remember who was before him.
  17. I have been around the Regiment organization for over 27 years and I can tell you that they have not used Yamaha brass during that time period. They used DEG/Dynasty brass until they switched to the King brass instruments that were designed for and by the Regiment Brass staff.
  18. If visual was the thing that was going to get Regiment a championship then they would have at least 4 rings already. Regiment has over the history of DCI been one of the strongest visual corps out there. We have multiple visual titles. It wasn't that long ago that Regiment was one of the premier corps for visual. I believe that Regiment has won the visual trophy more times than Cavaliers. I might be wrong on that but it is close if it is wrong.
  19. I don't think I can sit here and say that any one year pulled me into the organization. The first show I can remember is the Spartacus show and I know that to this day that is the only show I would like to see Regiment do again. I know that many many of the people that marched in the 80's and marched the Spartacus show very much want the corps to do that show again. So i guess that would have to be the show that made commit 11 years of my life to the organization as a marchng member and everyday of the rest of my life as a fan.
  20. At this time of year they are pretty much in visual all day. The majority of the focus is to get the drill learned in the next two weeks. If you go don't plan on hearing much music until after 8:00 pm. Generally at that time they will move in to Burpee Center and have ensemble for about an hour.
  21. I don't know for sure but some of it sounds like the intro to Bacchanale we played in '90.
  22. Those down years were also the years that Dan Farrell was not Program Coordinator. The person who replaced him as Prog Coor. was very probably one of the biggest reasons that the corps was having placement problems. There many problems with the show concept during those years. The shows were very ill conceived. Many of the caption heads/designers were not at the level that the corps had in the early 90s and the past few years.
  23. BD won Visual last year. Cavies - Brass & GE, PR - Percussion, BD - Visual.
