  1. I think it looks sharp--would be nice to see it from the box. Solid military heritage, NOT a copy of another World Class uni, and crisp and clean. Nice job, Surf!
  2. Also FWIW, extensive use of props, like Cadets a few years ago, and BD this year, not only requires money for the props themselves, but also vehicles to move them. I believe BD has an extra trailer (and therefore an extra cab, and therefore an extra driver, and therefore extra fuel, etc etc etc) just for those mirrors...
  3. It's a typo. No disrespect to BK, but I heard from someone at the show. BK and BAC tied w BAC's score form DCI.org
  4. Thanks for the updates though! Much appreciated!
  5. Matt, FYI, even when the Crusaders ran a Bingo operation in MA, the type of video Bingo used (to HUGE success) by BD was not legal in MA--so the constituency AND the law was different, not providing groups with even the opportunity to engage the populace like BD. To craiga's defense, I don't think he's resenting the Blue Devils for having and taking advantage of the opportunity, he's just commenting on how having an embarrassment of riches of Bingo resources may have contributed to their success, and the rest of the poor schlubs outside of CA have had to live in the "real world" of no Bingo (or less lucrative Bingo) for years. edit: and one more thing: Schadenfreude and rooting for one's own team aside, no one on these boards (or near no one) wants to see less corps around. I'm sure almost all of us can agree with that.
  6. I believe for regular shows it's the top 6, then groups of 3, so 7,8,9 rotate all summer long, 10,11,12, etc etc.
  7. FWIW, I have a wife, a (semi) real life, and I don't live in front of my computer more than anyone else, but I do care about honor and respect for tradition, and enjoy a little bit of pomp and circumstance when the occasion warrants. (Such as the anniversary of our nation's independence.) I also enjoy having fun. The thing that some of you (and presumably Crown) don't get is that there are some (many?) people out there, both performers and audience members, who can enjoy a disciplined, respectful performance as much as a laid back one. Nothing against Crown--not my cup of tea--but their way is no more right or more evolutionary than the way of those that choose to maintain a certain standard of tradition and military bearing. I'd venture to say that people in groups like Crown like to saunter in parades, and kids in groups that wear full uniforms and stand at attention like what *they* are doing, too. Perhaps they don't look at it as punishment--maybe they look at it as honoring a past that is on the way to being forgotten... Lastly, I read sometime in the last 48 hours that a Crown member got sunburn on his head from marching the parades without a shako. I bet those stodgy military-esque drum corps didn't have top of the head sunburn--maybe the military wore hats for a reason...
  8. nevermind. I'm sure the corps appreciates your support.
  9. April has been with the Cadets since the early 80s, and Bruno has been with the Cavaliers for almost 30 years, most recently as their director for the last two seasons. Not sure if they are with Boston, but if so, GREAT moves for BAC
  10. Seriously...Thread title of the day, if not the week. :-)
  11. I'm sure I'll be slammed for this, but it's because the majority of DCP disagrees with his (or her) opinions on the state of drum corps. (See G7 posts.) I don't want to get all down and dirty about it, but those who support G7 ideas and G7 corps refuse to acknowledge that the majority of drum corps fans disagree with the ideas behind the proposal--so any slight against DCP invalidates the supposed majority. Back to the topic on the relevance of DCP, I think it's a great resource, and represents a solid (but probably not metric-appropriate) cross section of corps fans. Lack of reviews has little to do with the relevance of the site.
  12. +1 for the Queen reference. I can't imagine PR without a huge bottom. Glad to hear they have 12. How many did they have last year?
  13. Sorry if I am reposting something someone else asked, but did anybody do the math? 4 tenors + 5 basses also equals 9. 18 man snare line, anyone?
  14. LOL <the rest of us>Way to freakin' go Crown...</the rest of us> I'm sure no one wanted this to be the message, but here it is and here we are. Crown has been a crowd favorite for a few years now. When do you stop rooting for the underdog and start rooting against a contender? Interesting dynamic, no?
  15. They are trying to win. Does anyone hold that against them?
  16. You know--I often wonder about this. Do we just forget what they sounded like a year ago?
  17. Here's the real problem though: How do we get past this? How do you voice your displeasure to the G7 corps without damaging the activity? If you don't buy a ticket, (which is admirable,) then that hurts DCI, and the G7 will point the finger at DCI for poor management and lackluster ticket sales. If you don't buy souvenirs from the G7, then they will cry that they need more money due to DCI's mismanagement. If you DO buy tickets to shows to support the non-G7 corps, the G7 still get more money. Sounds to me like the G7 have all of us by the cojones. I cannot think of a way to get this point across that will do more good than harm. The only 2 things I can think of are: Going to a show and walking out of the stands during G7 performances. This would send a message, BUT G7 would still get your money. Starting a massive email campaign to voice our support for the activity as a whole and try to bring everyone together. That's all I got.
  18. CitBos: a point of clarification: rules changes are voted on by the entire voting membership, which for all intent and purpose is all of that year's World Class corps. The DCI Board of Directors is a subset, elected BY the voting membership, elected to make the rest of the big decisions on behalf of the little guys.
  19. Please keep in mind when you say "DCI is doing..." that there are really two DCIs. There is the actual company that provides event management and entertainment services, and there is DCI, which is a term for the collective corps, who actually RUN DCI the company. Dan Acheson isn't sitting in his ivory tower mandating woodwinds and amplification. (He did help with the Lucas Oil decision, but I digress...) The DCI that you generally mean is really the confraternity of corps directors that dictate what Mr. Acheson is to do by majority vote. Like many of you are already doing, I suggest you look at the votes behind the decisions as to who and what part of DCI is trying to do what. Does that make any sense? It did to me when I started writing it...
