  1. Question? We won at Sacramento and second at Seattle? 16 points..... or are we going by the ranking for the day?
  2. Let's see.. The Internet. Video games. Decline in music education funding, and in some cases the removal of programs. I have trumpet students that have to choose between AP courses and band. The growth of extracurricular activities: robotics, computer science, class guitar. ( actual classes that take bodies away from bands) Off the question, I was told in 1993 to not bother to march as the activity was going to fold by 1995. Everybody played Holsinger or some boring wind-literature; nobody wants to see that.
  3. Mods... feel free to change my grammar faux pas in the topic: feat, not feet.
  4. After pulling a solid score early in the season when their electronics exploded into flames, Mystré has one-upped themselves. Due to some logistical errors by our tour coordinator Mr. Evans, the corps brass-instrument trailer arrived in Denver, CO.... nearly two weeks ahead of schedule! Mr. Evans said " I just got so excited, so quickly, and I couldn't manage my numbers... err... excitement for our tour schedule. " As as a result, the Mystré brass section performed with no instruments!!! Nothing but drums, pit, and a boat-load of electronics!!! Despite the dead-last finish, Cloudhype is exceptionally ecstatic about the corps progress. "With the "real" show hitting the field tomorrow, I can see us scoring about 4-5 points higher. Besides, this is Eugene, and we know no champions comes out of wining in Eugene."
  5. Oh... we just happened to have the highest score of the past-two nights; business as usual. Doom & Gloom
  6. Now that are electronics are not turing into pyrotechnics, the corps has got their swagger back, and has the highest score for the past two days. Doom & Gloom
  7. Considering our electronics went into flames, and the corps decided to roast marshmallows mid-drum-break, we are amazed at our fantastic score. If it allows our old friends, CK, the opportunity to finally beat us... good for them. Hope they enjoyed our sewing crew's hospitality on our touring buses. Ethel, Flossie, and Mildred seem to be in high-spirits today.
  8. I sat at numerous spots during finals week. The worst was 2nd level, outside the 30's... just pure boom. Inside the 30's the sound gets better but the drums always boom. For the final-7 corps during Semis, I sat beside a friend in some primo seats, inside the 40's (Section 400 I believe). The leg-room sucked, but the experience was great. Percussion still had too much echo. Finals night - My right butt cheek was 1/8-step inside the goalline, Side 2, and I was at the very-top row. The sound is clear, and for the first time all week, I heard drumlines... clearly. If I go this season, I will try for seats high in the upper-deck and inside the 35's.
  9. It seemed like such a quiet and peaceful neighborhood.
  10. If there is no on-demand aspect to the service, I'm going to pass. I only saw one broadcast in its entirety last season.
  11. Corps name: Mystre Director: Cloudhype Division: World Class Hometown: Las Vegas, NV Home show venue request: Las Vegas, NV
  12. After many seasons away from the virtual-football field, DCPI 4 & 5 Champions, Mystre, will be driving their "rolling casinos" across the country. With a change in the direction of DCPI, the Mystre staff felt is was a perfect time to end their 6-year-long touring production of "RMFL... An ear-busting event" and bring back the full corps. Corps director - cloudhype - is quoted as saying: "We're here to get directors active, and bring back the fun into the activity. So we are bringing back our trash-talking nature, unique and inventive programming, and most importantly.... cocktail waitresses and slot machines. Heck, maybe we will bring back our mid-season Texas Hold'em tournament. That's if people will get posting and active in their corps." Show announcements and a sneak-peak into the tour and drill is to be released in the coming weeks.
  13. Yeah... the escalator ride is quite nauseating.
  14. Saw these groups live. The only group with a bone to pick about BDB placing above them is The Academy. Everyone else was just not acheving like BDB. Matter of fact, I had SCVC over Spirit. OC... I really like them, but I think they placed at the correct spot.
  15. Jeff... Sit up high and under the overhang. I sat there for finals and the echo is removed. Sit down low and it is nothing but echo.
  16. Agreed! They need to untie his hands and let him write.
  17. Huntsville and MTSU on the same day. Now I have to choose. Thanks Obama.
  18. Consultant... A senior "experienced" member of staff that gives insight, direction. A fresh set of well trained eyes are nice to have.
  19. Being a designer, I work with a lot of directors. Majority of my clients do not support it. They didn't eve carry their group to the local event that had over a dozen corps at it. Most of this comes down from three lines of thought with directors: They don't want kids with big heads coming back to their program. Behind the scenes, you find out that about 1/2 are afraid of member being bored. They don't want kids coming back with bad chops. (Rare and is more of a college issue) Or it is simply a case of their own ego. They want kids to learn their way and ONLY their way. This is to biggest factor I see and tend to be from programs where only the concert band is strong. Most cases I see are from directors that have no clue on what the activity is all about. Also, regional factors add to the issue.
