  1. Irondale HS has been using the prototypes. I believe there's a picture on the wgi website somewhere.
  2. Some staffers do change teams for better pay, status, or what have you. A lot of times though, the corps will fire the designers/caption heads of the certain sections that didn't do so hot in the recaps. Then, the techs usually get fired as well because the new designer/caption head has their own crew that they want. So, even if a certain tech was great at their job, they could get fired anyway. That's how it works. Like it or not, it's all about placements these days.
  3. I would agree with that. I often see judges in the wrong place at the wrong time when it comes to exposure spots between the battery and pit. It would be nice to have a judge with the battery / pit all the time so they can really key in on everything. But, that would mean a lot of money for DCI so that's probably not going to happen.
  4. I don't see that happening. If I'm not mistaken, he left due to issues with the administration at SCV. Plus, I think he likes it at Cavies. Besides that, I think SCV would be stupid to get rid of Mike Jackson and gang. They took the leftovers from the miserable 11th place(in drums) '05 line and brought them to 6th in '06. Then, took a massive amount of young players in '07 and got them to 7th in drums and 5th overall. Not to mention, he's the king of the WGI circuit on the West coast. They've really started something great and I hope to see the progression continue. We'll see I guess. Nothing would surprise me though. It seems the admin departments from some of the bigger corps are mostly worried about recaps and don't really 'invest' in a staff anymore, much less a drumline's identity and style. It's like free agency now. Pity.
  5. I think so. If you factor in the Pit & Battery together with their average of the performances during finals week, they edged out Phantom. Don't get me wrong, Phantom was great and Cadets and Coats were respectable as well, but I think the overall performance + package of BOTH the Pit & Battery were best delivered by BD this year. Personally, my favorite line was SCV but the judges obviously weren't buying it, or couldn't catch up with them on the move.
  6. Let's hear if for the SCV drumline too!!! They ended the season with a ton of momentum. I know a lot of people didn't expect much from them due to their youth but man, they were sick during finals week. I hope everybody's looking over their shoulder in '08 because the Jonz should be back to primetime where they belong. :sshh:
  7. The '89 Cadets line was smokin. They got robbed for sure that year. SCV was good that year as well, but not nearly as good as the Cadets were. They were great all season and SC didn't really get clean until the end of the season.
  8. There's a couple preview clips of the SCV JONZ '07 vid. Check it out at http://jonz07.scvanguard.org/. Pretty cool stuff if you like Vanguard.
  9. Yeah, I don't get it either. I just saw them at DATR and they rocked! In the lot, I got to see the drumline do their thing. The kids looked like they had a foot up their 'you know what' for a couple days and they were throwin down. I mean they were focused and had a purpose. Me and my crew were able to get inside in time to see the whole corps and it had to be the best performance of the season for them. You could feel the energy coming off that field. I think they had some new stuff in their ballad which was cool. I think the show flows better now. I'm still confused as to why their scores are so low. Even if the corps above them ARE actually better, I don't think the spreads are accurate by any means.
  10. NO EFFN DOUBT! Those dudes meant business. Pi$$ clean with a capital Pi$$. Here's some of the who's who that was mentioned: Tenors: Murray Gusseck Colin McNutt Mark Campbell Mike Apodaca(sp?) Matt Altmire Snares: Walter Powell Chip Webster Tim Dent Jon Weber Nick Angelis Jeff Queen Leon Tagawa Basses: Camden ? Kevin Erickson Bill Cambell ? Vince Gardner Don't know cym's or pit names but there are more notables to be sure. I'm with you, SCVTeerav.
  11. I think SCV will take it. They've had a couple of days to clean so the show should be more solid. And yes, their show is quite demanding from what I've seen. Crazy drill and lots of playing. Crown's great, don't get me wrong, but if SCV pulls their show off solid, they'll take it. We'll see I guess.
  12. I think the main issue with the SCV drumline right now is the pit's timing. The battery is very solid regardless of how young they may be. . .especially with the crazy drill demand they have. When I saw them, the pit was a little shaky with their timing with the rest of the corps and that could be hurting their scores a bit. Just a thought. But either way, it's not uncommon for SCV to make huge strides in the latter part of tour in time for finals. And if you combine a polished line with the musical and marching demand that they are attempting, great things could happen for them. I hope it happens but I guess we'll see. :sshh:
  13. Regardless of what some might think of the judges' lack of consistency regarding Crown, Alan Kristensen(sp?) has been a quality judge for a long time. It is possible that Crown's drumline had a bad night. I, personally, don't care what happens to Crown's scores but as far as judges go, Alan's one of the best DCI has to offer, like it or not.
  14. SCV has got it going on in the lot. Cool warmups and an exciting book. Southwind was pretty cool to watch as well. Didn't really like Phantom in the lot. Not hatin'. They can play and all, but are pretty boring in the lot IMO. Blue Knights have some sweet beats. Hope they've cleaned up a lot from when I saw them. Colts were throwin down some vibe in the lot. I'm rooting for them to do well this year. Hope they can transfer it to the field. That's what counts right?
  15. Yeah, I guess it isn't too bad of a schedule but the Cali corps typically take the brunt of touring each year though. I heard SCV just changed the entire drum feature so there's going to be some cleaning needed. I'm expecting them to really kick it in gear over the next few days....hopefully. GO SCV!!! or just !
  16. Yeah. SCV IS using the vents that are on the top edge.
  17. SCV's guard is killing this year! They're sporting some weird flagless poles, rifles, sabres, and flags and are doing some wild stuff with each. I'm no expert but I think they're doing quite well and helping the corps' scores until the drums and horns clean up.
  18. No. Just S to the C to the V ! Ok. 2. Cadets 3. BD
  19. They're using the dot system vs. dressing the form.
  20. I was at the show and I think it's a little of both...at least right now. I watched both of their batteries in the lot and I was able to check out BK's run thru since they were housed at the show site. BK has some really sweet beats but they're just not executing it very well right now. Very dirty. Also, you can barely hear the snares and tenors for the majority of the show. In warmup, they seemed a little weak or timid but the beats are WAY cool. So, if they can somehow get it together, good things could happen. As for Colts, they appear to be hungry and are playing decently. Of course, there's some dirt but to me that's ok for now because the tuning they're using is highly exposed, vs. BK's, and when they are consistently clean it will be that much better. Not to mention they have a great drum staff. Overall, I think Colts have a better battery but BK's book is better. In time, if BK can clean it up, they'll be happening but for now, I'd say Colts will be the better line.
