  1. Just my general thoughts after watching last night. General disclaimers - not live, first reads for most, etc. Generally I feel like each of the Top shows has flaws and generally speaking I did not love any of them. And what that usually means in a DCI season is that BD will in Indy. And based on last night, I would not argue against that. Crown's show was just too much. It had Phantom 1991 and 1992 levels of fabric. It had an attempt at times to be Bluecoats from something like kinetic noise. It had the Cadets drill from Power of X and the Christmas show. Then it had the classic 1980s drum feature move where the hornline uses a cape or maybe a flag to add visual stuff. They chose Garfield's 1988 ribbons. And finally I think this is the heir apparent to New Era and Do Better. Too much. And the cheese at the beginning is just annoying. It is such a shame because all of the parts are there. That hornline! A much improved guard who earned that 1 in performance. And a salvageable drumline. Just a shame they are hamstrung by this mess of a show. BD had me from Moonriver on. The beginning just felt like it was going in fits and starts. They will figure it out I am sure. Boston this year is so much more enjoyable to me than years past. I love the clarity on the field and their effective use of the props. I that they have room to grow. SCV had moments. And the drumline is what it always is. And I did enjoy all of the flag work by the guard. I also liked their uniforms way more that 2019. But the show just seems flat. And I fear that maxing out performance levels can't make up for it. Finally, I did not think Bluecoats had a solid run yesterday. Once again a supremely talented corps from top to bottom, but the vehicle they have been given this year just won't get it done. And the actual words being spoken in their narration (not the fact that it is narration) is possibly the most insipid I have seen in DCI. And yes it may be from the source material, but insipid is insipid. I reserve my right to completely change my mind when seeing them live at the end of the year. It is not uncommon for me to underwhelmed at first, but totally changed at Indy. So please don't come for me!
  2. I booked my flight to Indy from New Orleans a while ago. And it was easily double the cost from last year. And I am risking a connection in Atlanta! Fingers crossed!
  3. I understand. But I feel like the Cadets this year do produce a solid mix of marching with the obligatory posing. Marching and playing is not dead. Now, will it be rewarded? The judging drives what is perceived as achievement.
  4. Finally saw the show. WOW! Souch abeautiful show and flow. Love the progression and the narration makes sense and does not detract. I loved it. And I was happy to hear an audience go crazy for them. Indy will be very interesting. America loves a comeback story and I feel the audience will finally be ready to fully embrace the Cadets! I can't wait to see them in Indy!
  5. I finally watched the Cadets show. It is a fantastic show and I think it announces to the world that the Cadets are back in business! Love it!
  6. Haha, depending on how my diet goes leading up to Indy, it could be yours! Thankfully I got an XL. But an XL in 1988is like a Large today!!!!
  7. So, I have decided to try to wear the first drum corps t-shirt I ever bought in Indy as a way to celebrate the anniversary. It is a classic Cavaliers Hornline shirt from 1988. If I can squeeze into it! Interested to see what others first t-shirt was and if anyone else has anything they are doing to celebrate the anniversary.
  8. 1972 Anaheim Kingsmen 1987 Garfield Cadets 1988 Suncoast Sound 1992 Crossmen 1994 Bluedevils 1996 Phantom Regiment 2005 Cadets 2014 Blue Knights 2018 Santa Clara Vanguard
  9. Quick Thoughts. Love the Colts drum line. I love when I can actually hear dynamics in a drum line. And I think the show is a very good vehicle for the drums and the corps. Madison's show was shockingly boring visually. And the lack of actual marching by the corps proper was sho king. Possibly my least favorite Scouts show ever. On the flip side, the Brasssounded strong (but it should because of the lack of movement). Blue Stars strong as usual. But, I really wish they could learn to edit visually. They always have just that extra clutter that gets in the way. Still enjoyable. Bluecoats musically just seem very bland to me this year.very strong ensemble, But, they did not get an opportunity to really shine. On the bright side, the narration stopped before it got to the point that I found so insipid that they lost me completely. Only so many eye rolls allowed in one show! Very happy to get a good listent o Phantom's music.at the theater, the audio was totally screwed up. Very enjoyable program. They will definitely be a crowd favorite in Indy! Can't wait to actually see everyone live! Oh, Flo Marching was actually pretty solid for me tonight. Pleasant surprise.
  10. Great number from the Cadets tonight. Here's hoping they can stay this close to BAC. Hoping for at least 6th this year!
  11. Wow! Colts Drumline! (In my best impersonation of the classic "Crossmen Drumline moment). Good for them!
  12. Was anyone atthe show last night? Interested to hear thoughts on how the corps is progressing.
  13. Not to dip my toe to deep into this debate, I will generally say that I found much of Bluecoats'narration to be insipid. Only one viewing, but some of those lines made me laugh. That can't be good. I willreserve final judgment until Finals, but as for the viewing at the cinema: Yowza!
  14. I have not seen the show live, nor have I watched it online in its entirety, BUT I really donot have a problem with the size of the props. It prevents work being covered up by giant props. The entire fieldisstill in play. I reserve all rights to change my mind, of course.
  15. That is exactly right. And I am from that northernmost part of Kentucky. Neither NKY nor Cincy is considered Kentucky and Ohio respectively. The area should just merge into one big city-state.LOL.
  16. People use that all of the time. And is because unfortunately, the name Kentucky is just better comedically. Tucky at the end of anything is funnier than the other options.
  17. Hmmmmm . . . What exactly is that supposed to mean? As a Kentuckian, I can only hope you mean that it is beautiful countryside with very warm people, mixed with a great urban presence with amazing bourbon. That being said, as someone who also lived in Philly, I get what you are saying! 😆. Just don't bring Kentucky into the discussion.🙂
  18. I think I booked with them as soon as it was available for booking on Hotels.com. I think that was back in October? But, you gotta be on it with that hotel. Not as big as some others.
  19. I have stayed at many over the years, but have pretty much settled on the Conrad. Good location and an amazing shower! JW was also very nice and an easy walk to stadium, but it is a bit further away from restaurants.
  20. I am clearing out some space and I came across some old Yearbooks. So if anyone would be interested in completing their collections, I have Yearbooks for the following years: 2009, 2007, 2006, 2005, 2003, 2002, and 2000. Just let me know.
  21. I know it was not the intention, but the 1999 Colts show "Voices" always seemed to be about some sort of psychotic event and meds required to treat it. Much more interesting when you just make up a theme!
  22. Just for fun, I will say that Pacific Crest, Troopers, Mandarins, Phantom and Cadets would have been my top 5. But if there were judges, of course none of what we saw and heard would have happened. But, that is why this was such a special season. We all walk away with our favorites and we can have one year without complaining about the judging!
  23. I do not think I would like that, on Finals specifically. The flow of a Finals night is just so seemingly fast and the anticipation builds with each corps taking the field. I think an encore after a Finals performance would just kill that flow. Oh, and anything later means nothing to eat or drink after the show since Indy closes sooooo early!
  24. Yes! On the whole a nice landing spot and open to a decent hour!
