  1. The absolute bottom line... until there is a safe and effective vaccine, nothing can move forward for in person events. You can't even begin to plan until that is in place. And even when it is in place, it could be years before we go back to a national touring model. DCI can survive this, the question is how long until we're back to where we were. It could be at least a decade.
  2. Based on what I'm hearing, it is already a foregone conclusion that there will be no 2021 season and DCI is eyeing 2022 or 2023, depending on who you talk to.
  3. Why would there be staff changes at this point when: We don't know if there is going to be a season in 2021 Corps are struggling to keep their electricity on We really don't know what we're planning for
  4. I talked to my bookie today. He gives DCI a 13% chance at having a season next year... and he says take the points on the Dallas game this weekend.
  5. That was more of a passing of the torch, like being handed down to a family member.
  6. Here’s the press release: https://www.flomarching.com/articles/6770158-flosports-and-drum-corps-international-extend-partnership-to-2026
  7. Geez, we can’t have nice things here anymore, can we?
  8. For those hoping that DCI would move away from FloSports, I’ve got some bad news for you. DCI and Flo have extended their agreement through 2026. Boom.
  9. I’ll say what I don’t think many will... DCI is most likely done. From a financial and operational standpoint, unless there is a major infusion of money from another source, it will be almost impossible for the organization to pick up where they left off. If we do get back to touring, the landscape is going to change dramatically. Some of the familiar faces will be gone, tours will most likely be regional at best, and there could still be limited capacity at shows. DCI has been dodging bullets for years, but this one is probably the one that does it in for good.
  10. Where would you be today? If you we're going, share your seat location. Share a photo from Quarterfinals past. We're you going to be at a theater? Hanging in the lot? Share your favorite Quarterfinals moment.
  11. Lineup & Times All times ET and subject to change Lucas Oil Stadium 500 S. Capitol Avenue Indianapolis, IN 46225 Show canceled.
  12. Cant believe its been almost 20 years since he's passed.
  13. Hey Jeff, what do you think the possibility is that BOA/DCI and WGI will need to reorganize and possibly join forces after this? I keep hearing a rumor that the intensity of those discussions are picking up. Do you think they're valid?
  14. First off, I never suggested that anything be buried (nor do I ever think it could be on this forum). My concern was that of the posts that featured the young DM that sent a note to the Mandarins family. In my opinion, she addressed her letter to the Mandarins family not to DCP and beyond. Yes, this is the digital age and that's always a risk you take, I would just hope that we could respect that bit of privacy. That was the reason I asked to close the thread, not to mute the discussion. At some point we have to begin talking about how to protect the victims, even on public message forums.
  15. Mike, I think this entire discussion should be removed. This is a private matter for the organization to handle and its impossible to know whether any of this is accurate.
  16. I understand this was posted on Reddit, but I feel like this was meant to be a private communication to the Mandarins family. I would like to recommend to the mods that this thread be removed.
  17. I think WGI would be the measuring stick for which we could see if a summer tour on a larger scale would be possible. I don't know that there is any direct relationship other that to say that WGI would test the infrastructure to see if it would be possible. For DCI, the determining factor is facilities. Housing, rehearsal, show sites. Are schools willing to host the corps? What states have loosened regulations enough to allow crowds to gather and watch shows? Are people willing to travel to shows? Do kids feel safe enough to join corps? So many questions that I don't think any of us can answer anytime soon. Logistically, for DCI to field a 2021 season, they would need to know many of these answers now.
  18. I think it way to early to guess what DCI may or may not look like when(if) it comes back. There is way too much we don't know.
  19. I absolutely agree with this. 2021 would be a logistical nightmare. 2022 Seems more doable, but even that is up in the air. And for the record, WGI and BOA have a massive impact on what happens with DCI. Its all related, and my guess is the one good thing that comes out of this is the potential to merge at least two, if not all three organizations. I've had at least two people on the admin side of things tell me they don't see an opportunity for a season until at least 2023.
  20. Not to be nitpicky, but it's actually "Tournament of Roses Parade" not the Rose Bowl Parade.
  21. I'm confident of a couple things: 1. There will be no WGI or DCI in 2021. 2. When we do get the activity back, it's going to look much different than it was when we left it.
  22. In NC, the competitive season has been canceled for several counties.
  23. I don't care if the mortality rate is .4% or 4%, any risk is a risk. If it were my kids, they would not be marching until there was a vaccine and a treatment that was proven effective. And I have a feeling there would be many other parents out there that would feel the same. Anytime the word "risk" is associated with my kids, I'm siding with my kids. I love drum corps, but I love my kids a million times more. And I can see the argument "well, the flu carries risk"... yes it does, but we have effective treatments and vaccines for that.
