  1. Nice idea, but there will be too many issues to have to deal with to make this a worth while proposition. Insurance will be the big stickler, since this is in-cooperation with a DCI event, DCI would share any of the liability. Also, what happens when 100 families show up with 200 kids? Did you know that some states require a teacher for every 5 kids? That's 40 day care workers. Plus, what facility would be able to hold those numbers? There is a reason why most daycare services don't stay open at night... it's not cost effective. My kids are 6,4, and 2. There is nothing I would love more than to have a night out with Mom. But I just don't see this happening.
  2. I knew I should have marched Regiment in 1991... #### it man, what was I thinking!
  3. Voting in this poll only "supports" what drum corps isn't... we should be backing all of the corps.
  4. They didn't have a choice, legallt their hands were tied as far as what they could put up, which wasn't much, since ESPN own the rights to all performances during Chanps week. The good news is, we won't have the same problem next year.
  5. I think one thing DCI might try and do tocapitalie on the demand is to post-produce the DVD's a bit quicker. As more time passes, I think the demand goes down (out of sight, out of mind). Getting the DVD's out quickly is going to help with the YouTube demand.
  6. If you were the director of a non_profit that is barely scrapping by, would you want to risk it? It's CYA to the millionth degree, and it is totally understandable. There are other issues with video's from ive events that could cause potential legal issues, but I doubt any of those would be major concerns. If I were the attorneys for the corps and for DCI, I would have as many video's taken down as possible. Don't blame the corps or DCI, one major lawsuit could throw the entire activity in a huge financial tailspin... then you'll be #####ing that we didn't do enough to protect the activity.
  7. What Sam said... It's understandable, but getting out of control. Unfortunately, it will never be resolved. I'm sure that ultimately the corps would love to see the material up on YouTube, but they just don't want the liability.
  8. No, ESPN has everything to do with it. Read back a few posts, ESPN owns the rights, and this is the last of a 3-year deal with ESPN. ESPN has final say in how and where the show is broadcast. DCI opted out of broadcasting because the price was too high (DCI has to pay ESPN for the airtime). EVen thought DCI opted out, ESPN still owns the rights. That ends with the 2008 season. Next year DCI can do as they please.
  9. Very well put. I have to add this... the folks at DCI read DCP, and they, like you, are fans of the activity. They've heard the complaints, and are listening. They VERY MUCH want to post as much as they can, and would share all of it if they could, but legally their hands were tied. They fought hard to try and make it happen, all the way up to last weekend from what I understand, so be grateful we have a good group of people trying to give you, the fans, as much content is possible. I would NOT be surprised to see the broadcast back again next year, but on another channel. I know there is interest from others, but if that comes to fruition is anyone's guess. And I can tell you that when and if DCI does negotiate a new contract agreement, they will most likely negotiate for control of the web offerings so this doesn't happen again.
  10. Yes... DCI signed a three year agreement with ESPN, in return, handing the rights for Championships to ESPN for those three years. As part of the agrrement DCI was given permission for the Theatercast and the Semi-finals webcast for all three years, but all other forms of broadcast or republication belong to ESPN. Without ESPN's consent, DCI was is not allowed to broadcast anything from finals, and this includes performances, score announcements, etc. 2008 is the final year of the contract. When DCI decided not to broadcast due to financial reason's, they also left no room to do anything online, or on any other platforms. ESPN owns the show, the rights to the championships, and the lawyers and business types at Disney don't want to give it up. There is probably a lot more behind the scenes stuff that we don't know about (both with DCI and ESPN) that played into this. But I do know that DCI fought like crazy to get something worked out, and according to the person I spoke with, there were people at ESPN that understand the organizations financial issues and were trying to help us out, down to the very last minute. It was close to happening, but didn't quite get done, bit not because no one tried. I don't want to say anymore, because i really wasn't involved. I think DCI will more than likely address this very soon. Hope this helps... **I need to put a disclaimer here, I'm an employee of the Walt Disney Co., but did not have any part in this, nor do I know of or have any contact with any party's involved in this matter**
  11. I have had the extreme fortune of talking with someone from DCI today who shed a whole bunch of light on the online stuff. Everyone at DCI really really really wants to post more video. Heck, the guy that runs the online video is a Regiment alumn, if it was up to him, their entire season would be online. But the are issues with the contract with ESPN that does not allow them to do it. They have been fighting with ESPN for months, and as late as the past few weeks, trying to reach an agreement, but in the end, it just wasn't meant to be (He assures me that there were even higher-ups inside ESPN that were trying to help us). He promises they are working on stuff to post in the next couple of days/weeks. But as for anyhting that happened in the stadium, including retreat, scores, etc, ESPN owns the rights to it all. If you want to complain, talk to the Disney lawyers.
  12. Regiment won... that was a VERY secret ending!
  13. I DON'T THINK THERE IS ANY NEED FOR A FULL CORPS RETREAT UNLESS THE CORPS ARE GOING TO PLAY THEMSELVES OFF THE FIELD... OLD SCHOOL

  15. The Cavaliers were in a league of their own this year. If you consider both design and performance... there wasn't anyone even close. They were clean from show #1.
  16. Can we just enjoy the moment for a bit... please? 2009 is a long long ways away. Let's give 2008 some props first. The kids aren't even home yet?!?!?!
  17. Dev's, you make all of us from California so proud! You have nothing to hang your head about, and delivered, as always, an incredible performance. Congratulations to all!!!
  18. No hate here, everyone deserves their opinion. Nicely done and thanks for your observations!
  19. I wonder if there are any video's up on You Tube? Opps, did I just break the rules?
